Sooo much to play arghhh.
« on: Saturday, September 29, 2007, 10:51:45 PM »
I picked up a Nintendo Wii this weekend, and with it, Metroid Prime 3, Zelda, Wii Play (for the extra controller) and it came with Wii Sports.

MP3 is pretty fun.  It's more of the same, and the sudden introduction of narration is somewhat awkward from what we've seen and gotten used to from the first two.  But still, really fun thus far.  Controls are pretty slick, though I always accidentally click on the wrong button to bring up the visor control.

Zelda and Wii Play are still factory sealed.

I also picked up Halo 3.  It's a decent game.  I honestly don't get why there's so much hype about it... thus far, it is merely OK.  Nothing spectacular.  I have yet to try multiplayer though.

I still have to finish off Bioshock too.

Argghghh, and Mass Effect and Assassin's Creed come out in less than 2 months.

I won't even begin to name all the games I got that I've yet to begin...

Bioshock was awesome.

I'm really lookin' forward to Assassin's Creed, myself. PC gamers have to wait until 2008 for their port.

Dunno when Mass Effect's coming to the PC. Bioware will not speak on if it'll get a port....but, I bet it will. KOTOR and Jade Empire did.

I'm still currently hooked on Two Worlds. I really like it a lot, despite some of its lack of polish. Runs a little better w/ the new NVidia Forceware Drivers that were just put out, which is worth noting.

And, playing Quake 2 MP w/ all the guys around here has been awesome -- Idol, Que, Nickclone, Ghandi, and everyone else who joined the battle! Wo0t!!!

I've got a few on my table coming up. Right now I'm going through Bioshock, and I'm playing Tomb Raider Legend again just with the NextGen graphics enabled (Hell of a difference!).

I'm willing to wait for Assassin's Creed if it means we'll get a more polished game.

Got a lot to look forward to! ;D

I've got tons of shit to play, but I always do.  Jeanne d'Arc, Rogue Galaxy, Dead Head Fred, Vagrant Story (again), finishing FFXII, Eternal Sonata, and of course Mass Effect pretty soon... plus I need to give the PSP port of Final Fantasy Tactics a fair shake... and then the freaking Disgaea port comes out...

 ... I'm screwed.

This is the worst kind of good.

And to top it off I have to build a new rig if I want to enjoy any of it. No next gen systems and an aging PC....this is bad.

Time for labor.  Then the magic that turns labor into large sums of spending money.  What's "savings"?

I'm really thinking of getting a Wii. I just invested a *lot* in these apparently mysterious savings and have some extra cash lying around. Please post your impressions with the console, ippi.

The Wii is a pretty slick console.  Very easy to use and it's a lot of fun.  The controls do take a little bit of time to get used to though, since it is quite different from your traditional gaming style (surprise surprise).

I'm quite used to HD gaming now, so going back down to 480p is a little bit of a disappointment.  I mean, I've only played MP3 thus far and Wii Sports, and while MP3 looks decent, the fact that it runs at 480p is visually somewhat distracting when you're used to playing at 1080i.  I'm kinda spoiled though.  On a larger screen, like mine, this difference is even more prominent.  Still, it is bearable.

That's some early impressions.  Overall I'm enjoying the console... it's gotten more playtime today than Halo 3 did, and I got that today too.

After I get paid next week I have the hard choice of buying either Halo 3, Orange Box, or Quake Wars. I have no idea what Im going to get.

You're not missing out on much with Wii Play or Wii Sports iPPi, they are pretty much just demos, both are fun for a few plays with friends, but thats about it.  My roommate and I are looking forward to Smash Bros Brawl, since we've had our fill of Mario Party 8, WarioWare, and Rayman.

Also Ghandi, my roommate owns a Wii and we hardly ever play it unless its a multiplayer game, we rarely ever play single player with it, since theres not a whole lot of good single player games out for it, besides Zelda and Metroid.  If you plan on playing with friends a lot, it's a blast, but by yourself most of the games aren't as fun, but that's just me.

Ghandi, I'd personally put off buying a Wii right now unless you just really want to buy something.  I had one at my house for a few months and it was great if there were 3 other people playing it with you.  I was pumped to buy one after my friend grabbed that one back, but it's a pretty shitty single player console in my mind.  I was looking around at the games available for it and couldn't really justify the cost.  You basically have MP:3, Zelda, and a ton of party games.

That can, and probably will change in the future, but I have a pretty strong feeling that for the next year or so it's going to be a typical case of waiting months between Nintendo releases and just ignoring pretty much everything else.

But fuck, Wii sports is great with 4 people.

I've had limited experience with the system, but that seems about right.  There *will* be some cool stuff you can play alone before too long if recent press is any indication, and there will surely be more great first-party games later (at least a few are in development), but it's one of those things that will probably be a safe bet in the near future, just not quite yet.  Same with the PS3, only the outlook there could swing either way.  We *expect* it to do better in the future, but where I think that's an easy guess for the Wii, with the PS3 it's still hard to say.

UNREAL TOURNEY 3!!!!!!

or Orange Box :P

As for the Wii, I've probably been the most negative about it on these forums, yet will probably buy one soon. I get six gamer friends at a time every Sunday, so I am sure it would be a blast.

Heck the Gamecube is fantastic fun when it comes to multiplayer joy. Even the lesser known titles provide hours of fun.
