My Hearing Is Tomorrow
« on: Thursday, September 20, 2007, 05:08:05 AM »
I have my hearing tomorrow to decide whether or not my former employer has to pay all of my lost wages and medical bills. I've already took a deposition with the opposing counsel and I answered their questions with frank yes and no questions (when I had to give more elaborate answers I was very vague). I basically did what my lawyer told me to do, but I was hoping some of you guys could give me some quick advice?

I have no idea what the case is about, but I can wish you luck.

Just make sure you look nice - wear a suit and tie. Other than that, good luck.

be polite and humble.  Don't seem like you're just there for the money

Against my wishes, I'm going to have to shave everything on my head other than my eyebrows.

I've told this story a million times, but I got hurt at work, needed surgery and they hung me out to dry. They refused to pay my medical bills, canceled my insurance and then fired me while I was on my three month healing process. What I don't understand is why they're fighting me so hard.

Edit: I'm also going to wear my glasses tomorrow.

Why are you shaving your head?  Just curious.

I'm not going completely bald, but I'm trying to look professional and not having an afro.

I think you have a good grip on what you have to do.  Look clean-cut, dress conservatively well, have a good attitude in court.  I don't know all the facts here, so I don't know if you have a good chance.  Appearances will only help so much.  Good luck.

I forgot that I posted about this here, unfortunately I won't find out if I win my case for another two weeks. However, I feel really good about it, I didn't everything I was told: looked presentable (even wore my glasses), made eye contact with the judge, didn't fidget around and answered with simple yes or no questions. The only person who gave damaging testimony was a girl who was obviously lying her ass off. Not only could she not get her story straight, but she got pissy with my lawyer and the judger, the judge even had to tell her " we don't need your commentary". On top of that, my lawyer ripped that flip-flopping bitch apart, I feel pretty good about the case.

Why would she lie?  IS she the employer?
