Pyro-Belmont Meet - Heaven or Hell: Duel 1 Let's Rock! (Yes There Is Pics)
« on: Friday, September 28, 2007, 01:26:55 AM »
Yes, I made a Guilty Gear reference in the topic title, what of it?  Anyways, most of you probably already know Pyro and I recently met up and he stayed at my place for 3 days, one of the days being an awesome metal concert, so hopefully I can make a nice rundown of the events that happened with pics without it getting too sloppy.  For the curious I have the full size pics on my computer and can zip them and send them to anyone who wants them, all together its only about 200ish MB.  Hopefully the pics aren't too small on the forums, I made them 640 x 480.  This might get broken up into several posts because of the pics too.  Enough rambling from me though, its happy fun time!

Day 1-Sunday

The day started out with some calls from Pyro and his travel woes, mainly his that he was going to fly from Dallas-Fort Worth to San Antonio with wasn't able to take off due to mechanical problems so his dad ended up picking him up at the airport there in Dallas and Pyro borrowed his dad's car to drive about 3 1/2-4 hours from Dallas to where I live San Marcos(college town about 20-30 mins from Austin).  He drove here without any problems but no A/C in the car + Texas weather makes for a uncomfortable Pyro:

Holy shit, we're all going to die! Oh, he doesn't really have a flaming head.

Dear god, he's in my room!  He has a cool shirt though.

After he changed and relaxed for a little bit, everyone was hungry so Pyro, my friend Corey, my roommate Bryan and his girlfriend all went to a Japanese hibachi grill place called Kobe Steakhouse.  Good food, good times, and Pyro got the "Ahhh big boy" comment from the chef when the chef gave him extra fried rice and Pyro preceded to tell me that at the last OWmeet he kept getting called the "fat kid" because he eats a lot.  I ate more than him though so what does that say about me?

Foooooooooooooooood!

After we ate, we headed back to my place and goofed around for a bit, browsing YouTube, watching Terminator 2 on TV.  A couple of hours later a beer run was in order so off we went to the store to acquire booze!

Look at the intensity as he uses the internets, he might be using all of them!

Decisions, decisions.

No Pyro, we can't take them all home.

After the beer was acquired we proceeded to kill the rest of the night with video games and board games.  First we played some Guilty Gear XX: Accent Core.  After Guilty Gear, one of my roommate's friends showed up with Apples to Apples, an awesome card game for those who have never played it.  Once we were done with Apples to Apples we spent the rest of the evening playing one of my favorite board games, Settlers of Catan and all of those activities kept us up till almost 6:00 AM!  After we finished Settlers we called it a night.

My friend Corey(guy on the right) and my roommate Bryan(guy in the back with the glasses) playing Guilty Gear against each other as Pyro watched and studied his next victim's patterns.

Pyro and I playing Guilty Gear (I'm on the right sitting next to Pyro, Pyro is on the left, duh!)

Look at how happy he can be!

Oh shit, he's going to cut me!

Apples to Apples!

Yay for Pyro and getting his first green card in Apples to Apples!

Apparently I'm trying set the cards ablaze with my intense stare, that or I'm thinking about which card to play next.

Settlers of Catan!

Look at this guy using his resources like a Settlers pro.  I think he was building a road in this pic.

Day 2: Monday

Pyro and I both slept in till around 1:30ish PM that day since we didn't have to leave for the concert till 5 so we just hung out until we left for the concert.

The beast awakens from his slumber.

Don't drink and drive kids!

A pic of the side of the club we went to for the concert, The White Rabbit, neat little place in San Antonio.

And another cool painting on the outside of the club.

The concert itself was fucking awesome, Pyro and I got there pretty early so we were right next to the stage. The opening local band Doctura played first and they were pretty good. Then Swallow the Sun came on and put on a pretty good show, the keyboardist was doing a sound check before they started playing and he played the Terminator 2 theme which was funny since we had watched it last night.  Then the main band Pyro and I came to see started up, Insomnium and these guys put on an amazing performance, there was much headbanging.  Scar Symmetry came on after and Pyro and I didn't know too much about these guys but we kind of liked them but their performance was great, they put so much energy into their show that it made me like them more than I did before, the guitarist, bass player and vocalist were leaning down right into our faces and letting people sing into the mic.  After they finished up, Katatonia came on at which point Pyro and I both came to the conclusion that their vocalist sucked so we left and as we were leaving we saw the vocalist and guitarist from Insomnium by the T-shirt booth so we went up to them and told them how awesome their show was and they thanked us and shook our hands and we left to head back to my place for food and other shenanigans.  Shenanigan of the evening:  Having a Nerf gun war in my apartment with all the lights being turned out, much cursing happened and shots to face were aplenty.

Woo that show was great wasn't it?  What?! I can't hear you! I think we were too close to the stage!

Back at my place feeding the beasts.

My roommate and Pyro rocking the fuck out on Guitar Hero 2.

He thinks he's a rock star, isn't that just precious.

Look at this bastard getting hand fed grapes like some kind of king before he heads to bed.

After all the video game fun Pyro and I crashed from exhaustion from the day's events once again at like 6 in the morning.

Day 3 Tuesday

The last day was pretty laid back compared to the previous night, Pyro and I both slept until about 2pm and awoke with stiff necks from headbanging at the concert all night.  After we both showered, we played a game that Pyro had brought over, The Red Star for the PS2 for a couple of hours and then kind of hung out and chatted until around 6pm at which Pyro and I were both hungry, so I called my friend Corey and we all headed an awesome local restaurant called Grin's.

Hey look I've got a Nerf gun and Pyro snapped a pic of me making a stupid face!

Nerf gun = dick?

You're going to put out an eye!

Food 2: Food Harder

Pyro was intrigued by this part of the menu.

That's why its only 99 cents!

After the food, my friend, Pyro, and I all headed back to my place and started playing the Star Wars Pocketmodel Trading Card Game.  My friends and I have recently got into this game and Pyro was interested in it so he played with my roommates ships and card deck against me.  The last bit of the game took awhile though because when my roommate flipped on the TV, The Meaning of Life came on and distracted us a bit, but the game ended shortly after the movie did.

Yay for Star Wars!

IT'S A TRAP!  Or maybe its just Pyro and I playing the Star Wars Pocketmodel Game.

That's no moon, it's Pyro?

I see what you did there, you think you're so funny and clever.

After Pyro and I finished up, my roommate and friend Corey played a game while Pyro and I watched since Pyro wanted to see how it was played a little more.  That game was finished up in about an hour so The Red Star was suggested again, so Pyro and my friend Corey played until about 5 in the morning, at which my friend left and Pyro and I chatted a bit before heading to bed for the last evening.  When I awoke to go to work at 1pm I said my goodbyes to Pyro and he left shortly after I did and it was the end of a great 3 days.  I would definitely like to do it again sometime and plan on going to another future OWmeet.  Hopefully I made a coherent enough telling of events for everyone.

Haha, those were awesome.  Some classic Pyro that is.  Great commentary, too.  Given how long it took me to do the one for the last meetup, I can appreciate it.

But yeah, you definitely have to come out if we all get together again, Bel.  I was bummed that you had to miss the last one.

Thanks for taking all that time to share, guys.  Looks like you had yourselves a blast.  Takes me back to my college days.  No video games outside of bars, and there's only so much Pong and Breakout I could stand.  Card games and loud stereos are another matter, though.  And beer.  Mmm.

I actually bought 3 packs last night and got some pretty cool new ships and cards, got a Rogue Squadron X-wing I had been wanting for awhile and an Obi Wan foil card as well as some other neat ones.  You should find someone to play with, make K-Man or Xero play with you, its a cheap and fun collectible game.

Damn. That really makes me want to play some games. Que and I need to get our Warhammer act together... or maybe we'll just buy Settlers in the meantime.

What we *should* do, Sy, is just buy, assemble, and basecoat a bunch of dudes to play with, then gradually paint them even as we're still playing.  It wouldn't look pretty, but it'd be functional.

That, or we need to sit down and physically plan out exactly what basic units we need to form really basic armies, then just work on nothing but getting those done.  You can finish a basic army for your 'Nids if you haven't gotten it up to speed already (don't you have like a 500 point army well finished by now?), we can work on getting the rest of the Marines together (shouldn't take *that* much work if we're both steadily going at it), and then I can try to figure out what I need for my sisters.

I actually wanted to ask you if you wanted to do like a painting month type thing, "sponsored" by OWnet.  Like one of those novel writing or poetry writing months (or the 8 billion other themed months that are out there now).  It would be a great excuse for me to just focus my energies on that instead of doing a bunch of other stuff.  What do you think?  The others here who paint (Pyro, beo, idol in theory) could have fun doing it too and we could have a bunch of progress threads just showing our work as it goes along.

Maybe we should talk about that and then make a thread about it.  I'm sure you'd be up for it, right?

Yeah, I'm pretty much at 500pts now. I started one more guy the other day to round out the force and then move onto those Marine Devastators. After that, probably some Tactical Marines or something.

You know, I just did a quick number crunch. With your Captain/big-ass dude, the Macragge Marines, that small squad I did during the summer, and the Devastators we basically have 500 right there. We need to do this.

Nope, you would be thinking of W7RE who I lived with in Phoenix while I was college with him.  I moved back to Texas after finishing school.  This was my first time meeting Pyro in person.  W7RE is back with his family in North Carolina.

What makes me upset about this thread is there isn't enough pictures of me and pyro.  We shared some rather pleasant moments together.  But other then that it was rather fun.
