So, I got a new Job...
« on: Tuesday, October 16, 2007, 08:19:05 PM »
Well, I've worked for my Uncle's carpentry business since I was 17 years old. I've loved it, working with family, goofing around, and generally slacking, and getting paid $14 an hour for it. Well, I've been wanting into a different field for a while now, and I started school this past summer studying EMS/Fire Science. Well, A friend of mine told me about some job openings at The Ohio State University Medical Center, so I applied for a position as a Patient Care Associate. And I had the job interview today, and I got hired. It's right under a nurse basically. I take blood, check vitals, keep people comfy, check food intake, etc. So I'm pretty happy about it. Monday-Friday 8am-5pm with an hour long lunch. $14.91 an hour to start. I wanted the job as it pays a little more than my current job, and I of course want the experience in a medical field.

Plus, I get to wear cool scrubs and get a dope security badge with my picture on it. I don't start until the end of November, but I got the job. I'm really excited about it.

Congrats!  Helping people is always rewarding, IMO.  Hope it works out well for you.

Heh, cool, let me know what your think cause I may have the option to do the exact thing. Ive been playing with the idea but the job can get really dirty, but if you can stomach the bad parts should be a cake walk.

Yeah, I expect it to be pretty dirty. There are some bad parts, but I'm sure I can handle it. One of the PCA's told me about sifting through a convicts shit for a heroine balloon, as he swallowed it to try and hide it. Yeah, I expect it to get pretty gross. Hopefully I don't specifically have to do that, but we'll see. As long as I have gloves and a mask I can probably handle it.

Nice, congrats on the new job. I'm graduating soon and really need to start thinking about these things. It sounds like a good opportunity.

As for being dirty, yes, it will be. My mom is a nurse and runs the ICU at a hospital, and I get all the nasty, gory stories from her. If you are queasy, look somewhere else. But I'm sure that you will be fine.
