Guns

Does anyone here own a gun? If so, for what purpose?

I want a gun really bad. I'm not violent - I don't actually want to use it on anyone. But I would love to have one just to shoot at a range or where have you, for shits and giggles. I want a handgun of some sort, nothing too big. No need to compensate for anything.

If you've never owned a handgun, a revolver may be the thing to get first.  I know automatics are sexier, but you need to learn more about them than just how to shoot them.  Aside from cleaning, revolvers are maintenance-free, and will never ever jam.

I can't actually afford anything at the moment. I'm not about to run out and buy one. But, if I did, rest assured I would be well informed. Guns are dangerous, eh?

I've been researching different types of guns. I'm trying to find something that is good for beginners, but not too cheap. I'm willing to throw down a little extra for some reliability.

I have a Sig Sauer P220 .45 S&W.  It's a pretty sexy handgun, and I intended to go shooting with two friends of mine who are both cops.  Unfortunately it never really panned out due to one guy having some complications in his life that involved major changes, and the other guy sort of pissing everyone off and not really being a friend so much anymore.  I've still meant to get some ammo and head to the range, as I've never even fired the thing, but the motivation is just totally gone from me at this point.  Doing things alone can be cool, but some things you just want to do alongside someone.  This was one of those things for me.

It is indeed very sexy. I'm a fan of the all-black for some reason. Dunno why.

It's a shame that things didn't work out and you've never gotten to shoot it. Make sure to clean it before you shoot it.

Hell, it's been quite a few years since I bought it.  I wouldn't touch the thing without taking a full class on how to disassemble and clean the whole thing, let alone shoot it.

I don't have a gun yet (because whenever I try save up money, it ends up being spent on games), but my brother has a .22 rifle. I forget the exact make of it, we haven't shot it in a year or two (you may remember the pics of shooting the shaving cream can).

.22s are pretty good guns to get. Ammo is cheap and can be found everywhere, there is little to no kick, and the rifles aren't that expensive. Havent priced the handguns in a while, but they were something like double the cost. A .22 rifle is good for target shooting and general plinking, and it'll still kill someone if you really need it.

And idol is right, handguns will cost you a lot more than a cheaper rifle.  Mine cost me around $1k and that included nothing but the gun and the case.  No ammo, accessories, nothing.

<------------- NRA Member.

Guns are awesome. I'm currently not able to own a handgun (not yet 21 and I am living on University property, which prohibits them), but as soon as my conditions change, I will be investing in a basic, run of the mill revolver that has reasonably cheap ammunition.  I want to be hitting the range as often as body builders hit the gym.

I may move up from there, but my fascination has always been with handguns, not rifles and shotguns.  Don't get me wrong, those are cool, but handguns just seem much more practical.

And in the lovely state of Colorado, right to carry is very easy to get (fairly certain it is only a class), so I would be able to holster and carry around that baby with me wherever I went. ;)
Suck it, Pugnate.

I agree with you on your handgun stance, shock. Rifles have their purpose, but handguns are definitely more practical.

That being said, I've shot a 12 gauge numerous times at my grandparents house and I loved it. It has a little kick to it, but that's part of the experience. Plus, there's no way that I was going to complain in front of my grandpa. He wouldn't have said anything, but he would have smiled in the way that says "stop being a pussy." Damn war vets. :)

Yup, take the class and apply for the permit, the who thing can be a bit pricey depending on your county, When I looked at it I think it was going to be around $200 or so for the permit and the filing fee, but I lived in Denver County.

I've got a H&K P2000.  I've grown to like it a lot.  Handguns are practical if you need to carry something on a daily basis, but there's no beating a pump action shotgun when it comes to home defense.  Any intruder on earth will shit his pants when he hears a shotgun rack from another room.

The only gun I've ever had interest in owning is an AR-15.  But I'm not about to spend $1,000 or whatever on something like that.

Excellent! I'll take out a life insurance policy on you. "In case" there's an accident.

The gun is to avoid any accidents, idiot. Guns solve problems, they don't create them.

I've never owned a handgun.. Just hunting rifles and shotguns. I miss Lebanon.

My uncles have war experience with several handguns, submachineguns, assault rifles, molotovs, grenades, and frickin' rocket-propelled grenades! The Egyptian and Lebanese militaries were pretty diligent back in the day. COme to think of it my dad was in the army too, though he was a test-pilot.
