Ohio is truly a great state.
Apparently they allow mentally retarded women to serve on their Board of Elections. The story here is that a county in Ohio had some trouble with their last election. They have electronic voting machines that print out paper ballots (which are then verified by the voter), but unfortunately the cheap-ass printers they used rendered 20% of the ballots unreadable. This is a serious problem, since only the paper ballots are valid under Ohio law. To fix the problem, they're using the electronic records to print out new paper ballots, which will be used instead.
Of course, the whole reason they use paper ballots is that
you cannot trust the electronic records in the first place, since there's no guarantee the machine recorded them correctly. Instead, you use a paper ballot that is
verified by the voter, at the time the vote is cast.
Truly, Ohio is an inspiration to us all.
