When Was the Last Time You Fell Down?
« on: Sunday, December 30, 2007, 07:02:14 PM »
I fell down last night, it was a major spill...the kind that makes you realize that you're not young anymore. I was walking out of my friend's back porch to smoke and I missed a step half way, twisted my knee, turned around and landed flat on my back. While I was on the ground for... I dunno, ten minutes, I realized that if I didn't get up no one would ever find me.

Now my knee is swollen and red, at least what you would consider red for a black guy.

I fell today while not paying attention on some stairs, but I can't say I was hurt or felt old... old man.  :P

Maybe when I was drunk? I haven't fallen lately that I can remember, and certainly not when I was sober.

Not in a long while, I'd guess.

And probably not too much, since I retired from skating, heh. :P

Only time recently was about a year or so ago when I tripped on the stairs here.  Was a bit of a fluke, really, but no real damage at any rate.  Before that... I can't really even think of a time.  I'm sure there must have been something, but nothing comes to mind.

Man, I don't drink, so when I fall it's more embarrasing. To compensate, I fall spectacularly. LAst one I can remember (hur hur) is when a buddy of mine said I should try out his snowskate (a bi-board thing - kind of like a biplane). It slipped forward, I went back and my head broke my fall. This was on very thin snow, maybe half an inch, so that hurt. Luckily I've never cracked my head despite my spills. I have a scar from stitches I had in my forehead from when I was about six, though.

A couple months ago I fell off monkey bars landing on my back.  I landed pretty much without incident considering the height of the monkey bars, and how fast I was going, but a small scrape on my elbow turned into a rather severe medication resistent staph infection, and about two weeks later I had a massive alergic reaction to the antibiotics.

I've gotta ask...why were you on monkey bars?

Man, I don't drink, so when I fall it's more embarrasing.

I would make the argument that falling because of drinking is even more embarrassing.

It's not embarrasing when you don't remember it.  Also, people expect drunks to do stupid shit, sober people aren't supposed to fall down.

Perhaps I should have substituted "embarrassing" for "pathetic" in my last post. :D

It's probably been a few weeks since that time I was pretty drunk walking home and tripped on something.  It wasn't usually the kind of thing I'd brag about because I'm pretty sure I went to kick it and totally just baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaagh!

I know, it's lie someone's out to get me.  I think it all stems back to this time back in elementary school when I had this teacher that I really didn't like.  She also didn't like me, and I don't know which led to the other but either way we couldn't stand each other.  Some might look at a situation like that and think that she held the more powerful position, but you have to keep in mind that I'm like 11 years old at the time, in a classroom of my peers, was already a legend for my ability to make fun of people, and had no concept of empathy.  Either way, I think I may have shattered her views of the innocence of children with the things I'd pull, and it was a launching pad to my unprecedented popularity in highschool.  She also probably shouldn't have been a teacher because she didn't handle it very well at all and I knew if I poked the bear long enough she'd lose it and I totally would get off without reprimand from higher authorities.

Except you can only play that game for so long before the principle and VP catch on.  Counseling for that and other transgressions aside, I only had one option: revenge.  I had to make all the other teachers know that I was a force to be reckoned with.  And what better way to do it then pick on this poor teacher's young son.  So, cutting the hillarious parts of the story out of it, I had to be on the opposite side of the school grounds of this guy for the next 8 months.  That'll teach his mom to show weakness.

So anyways, I went on to highschool and this guy followed me a year later, and I don't think I ever talked to him or really saw him at all, but a few years ago I ran into him and he's all like "Hey, it's Trevor?  Remember me?" and I was all like "Yeah.  I love keg beer because there's a lot of it.  And girls don't know how to drink it without making bad decisions."  and then he's all like "um, ok.  Man, you really didn't like my mom eh?" and I was all like "I liked being funny more."  and he was all like "yeah, that's cool.  I can see how some people didn't like her, I don't blame you for being a dick to me"  and I found this to be kind of gay and awkward, so I just pretended I didn't know what he was talking about and was all like "I was?  Really?!  Wow.  Uh....sorry about that?" .

Now the things we did must have been pretty traumatic for a young boy growing up and he'd probably been waiting years to have this conversation and here I was just totally brushing it off.  like 'That motherfucker doesn't even remember what he did to me?!'  I'd be like at the Nuremberg trials some guy being like "The Jew thing?  What Jew thing?  Oh!  Thaaaaat.  Eh, it's kind of fuzzy but I don't think it was really anything that bad."  That guy must just totally haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaarrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrgh!!

hahaha to the monkey bars.. sorry Ant.

i go on monkey bars - it's good exercise!!!

I remember now, the last time i fell..  I wasn't looking and I missed a step and slipped and almost dropped the little kid i was carrying.  The kid found it funny.  i didn't especially since it would have been a really horrible accident if the kid fell down all those steps.

Taken.

Last winter, at the end of my mother's driveway.  I was going to the mailbox in the dark to put an envelope in the mailbox.  The snow had been cleared, but the pile uphill had been melting and running over the pavement during the day, only to ice over at night.  I didn't realize it was worse than just wetness when I stepped on it.  Shiny glare ice.  I think all of me was about 3 feet off the ground horizontally, just before I went down on the concrete flat on my back.  It would have been really funny if I had not gotten seriously hurt.  I ended up getting a frozen shoulder and needing to have it moved under anesthesia.

I don't remember the real last time, but one that I do remember was me trying to load the car for a trip and there was ice on the walkway. I was carrying a bunch of crap including boots, so I slip, fall, and launch the stuff into the air in one smooth motion. One of the boots slammed into the snow about 4 inches from my head. That probably would have hurt.

I'd say about two years ago on Thanksgiving day.  We were playing football and I was running the ball downfield when one of my friends tried to tackle me, but couldn't. So he fell and took a swipe at my legs as he went down.  I lost balance and ran about 20 more feet at full speed trying to regain my balance before falling head over heels.  Spun a few times in a spectacular crash and landed on the football's point.  I cracked a few ribs and couldn't breathe or lay down right for a month.

In the next play I clipped him in the knees, so we were even.

Upon reading this thread I consequently tripped on the stairs on the way up to my office.

Bitch.
