You could cut the fog with a knife.
« on: Tuesday, January 15, 2008, 09:39:58 AM »
This is my favorite kind of morning.  Man, I love this.  People keep telling me to move to England, but I think all other weather should conform to my personal preference.  Yes.

I like heavy fog too.  It's rare (here) and neat.  Dangerous to drive in though.

Cincinnati weather is often misunderstood.  People think we are like Michigan or something.  True, it does get cold in the winter (right now it gets down to 20 or so overnight and about 30-35 in the day), but we get hot weather in the summer.  Last summer it was like 95-100 almost the entire time.

But I hate every season but the summer.  When I tell people this they are like, "Oh are you from the South?"  I say, "No I was born and raised in Cincinnati."  They usually stare quizzically for several seconds before saying "Why don't you move then?"  To which I usually answer "I don't know..."

I'd love to move to Florida or Hawaii or Arizona if only the cost of living was anywhere near as comparable to here.

Edit:  "Hate," not "had"

i think it's a case of grass is always greener. you'd probably like england for about a month. currently it's raining, yesterday there was hail. it's completely miserable for about half the year and when it's better, it's not by much. the "hot" part of our summer normally lasts about a week. trust me when i say it gets old.

See, I hate heat.  Loathe, even.  I like rain and fog.  If it was rainy and foggy every day of the year I'd be pretty happy.  I mean don't get me wrong, I can appreciate sunshine on occasion, but I'm pretty much the polar opposite of most people.  If it was rainy and foggy 90% of the time with a little sun thrown in here and there, I'd be cool.

Ireland is actually the best climate I've ever visited.  Constantly raining and generally cooler, but the sun frequently gets the chance to come out and just makes the world glimmer like you can't imagine.  I've never seen a more beautiful place in my entire life, especially one that felt so much like home to me.

I don't mind rain if it's a thundershower, but I hate the times when it rains for 3 or 4 days straight all day and is just gray and gloomy and everything is wet and muddy.  Hate it, hate it.

I don't even like it when it rains 1 full day.  An hour of heavy rain I can deal with.  Any more than that... *ugh*

The weather beo described...I'd love. Like Que, I hate heat. Fall and winter are my seasons.

As for rain, I like rain when its just...you know, raining. Its kind of peaceful. I dont like thunderstorms.

Fog or smog? Whenever I hear fog and CA I immediately think of smog.

It doesnt get foggy up here too often (which is surprising as I live in the mountains) but when it does fog up it is thick as hell. Impossible to drive or see 10 feet in front of you.

Not smog here.  All of CA isn't LA, you know.  We have our share, but I'm not directly inside San Francisco.  The cancerous death generally stays over there, which is fine.  I hate most of those people.

I like rain.  But sometimes it's too much if you have rain for 3 months and hardly any sunshine!  molds growing out of the ears.

like some of you, i hate heat.  Fall is perfect.

Fog.. i grew up in the mountains and we'd get fog often.  It was really nice.  I once went to the cemetery on a hill on a foggy day - creepy! especially since we were walking around the area for unborn babies.

WTF  Unborn babies?

I've always thought cemetaries were kind of cool, especially older ones that have fallen into a bit of disrepair.  I guess I'm just wierd that way.

To devout Catholics, abortion is murder.  That some cemetery may have a section for unborn babies does not surprise me.

There's never real fog here, Scott.  I can't remember last time I was truly hampered out on a local road by it.  You can still see plenty far enough.  Now, the Pennsylvania mountains on the way to NY recently were another story.  You couldn't see jack shit in a couple of places.  I slowed down to about 40, hoping that was slow enough to stop if need be, and that no speeding assholes piled into me.  Thankfully, it didn't last long.

Yes, the one i went to was like that.  I went with some cousins, cause they've never gone there and were visiting and wanted to go to a creepy place.

Well i remember seeing a few that were born on the same day they died.. still birth probably?

it's really sad seeing the small graves, and sometimes there would be 3 from the same family, triplets i would think.

Right, very rare.  I saw it one time around 8pm when I was driving between Trenton and Oxford.  I was going probably 35-40mph and completely overdriving my headlights by a lot.  I could probably see 25 ft.  I guess that's not really Cincinnati, but it's nearby.

I dislike the rain and snow.  I drive a Mustang, so it handles like absolute shitballs in both conditions.  In the rain it's kinda fun to slip around, but in the snow it's just aggrivating -- not to mention everybody drives 20 mph max.

On the other end of the spectrum is the heat, which I also can't stand.  Anything over 90 degrees is unfuckingcomfortable.  The problem with living in New England is that any given week of the year could potentially include any and all weather conditions within the short 7-day span.  I've seen it snow mid-May more than once.  Talk about ridiculous.

I don't like heat.  I just dislike it a lot less than I hate rain, snow, and cold.  I'll take 95 any day over 35 or even 55.

For me it's all about ease of use.  Well, not all about it, but that has something to do with it.  It's almost always easier to get warm than it is to get cool.  In the heat, it's impossible to get any cooler here.  There's no getting away from it.  It's hot, there's no breeze, we don't have air conditioning.  We're fucked.  When it gets cold (and it can for indoors, trust me... my apartment has the worst insulation ever) it's much easier to warm up.  Use the heater a little, or just throw on some more clothes.  You can be naked as you want in front of a fan here and not cool off more than a degree, but a sweater will go a long way in the 40s.  Plus cold doesn't make you sweat like a filthy meatsack.

See that's part of the issue for me.  I hate the thought process of "Should I wear a jacket or a sweatshirt or a long-sleeve t-shirt or a coat?" and "Will it just be cold in the morning and then warm up to a temperature were I won't need a jacket?  Can I forgo the jacket entirely or will it just be too cold?  Then there's the evening to consider."

It might be different in the Bay Area, but here in the winter it gets really fucking cold.  I hate wearing huge winter jackets and gloves and a hat and sweaters and sweatshirts and then still being cold.  Half of the time I simply can't wear a hat because it screws up my hair beyond repair.  Other times I can get away with just keeping the hat on or switching to a ball cap.

I just like knowing that I can put on some shorts or jeans and a polo or t-shirt and just know that I don't have to worry about any of that crap.

I'm with you Que, slight rain, nice cloud cover and the feel of thick fog, that's where it's at. People keep telling me it's because I am from England, which is probably true. Right now I'm living in Halifax which has very similar weather through spring and fall and it's great.

The only bad part about rain and fog is driving. Nice clouds do block out the heat of the sun with a cool wind around 10 to 15 degrees (centigrade), that's perfect.

I actually really enjoy driving in the rain, especially at night.  Most people think I'm nuts, but I love the way the city looks at such times.  It's unlike anything else.

Rain is good when it's not pouring that you can't drive anymore!

It's snowing today.  So nice.  But, the layers of clothes is stifling!

I like to sweat in the heat.. I don't mind the heat as long as there's a cool breeze and I'm  near the sea.  Jumping into the sea when all other areas in the house/garden is hot, is so cooling.  But definitely, I'll take cooler weather anytime.

Now that's true.  There's something great about sea or lake swimming in really hot weather.  Not sure why that's different, but there's something awesome about it.  Even a pool isn't bad, but pools are kind of lame.

Haha.  With good tires, the rain is fine, especially after enough of it to wash the oily grime off the roads.  Snow is always a major challenge on our beasts.

Yeah, all I have are street tires.  It's not too bad in the rain, in fact I kind of like when it's a little rainy out because i have fun sliding around like an asshole.  Throwing the back out around turns is too much fun.

Isn't that the whole purpose of the car?   ;D  You do learn controlled skids on it.  Either that, or you die.
