Ever since Bhuttos Assasination, as you guys may know, there have been lots of riots. Well some of the rioters attacked a number of power lines, generators etc. So for the past few weeks there has been a massive shortage in power, and that has resulted in "load shedding". So every evening for a couple of hours, I lose power.
That fucking sucks. Nothing drops your spirits faster than realizing you will have to sit alone in the dark for two hours. It isn't about passing the time, as it is about time wasted.
If that wasn't enough, I've had no water since Saturday. Basically in this part of the world, tenants have no rights. You rent a home, and if something goes wrong, you fix it. Each house in this part of the world receives water in a basement reservoir daily. It is the duty of the inhabitants of that house to go out every morning, turn on the water pump motor for a couple of hours, and fill the distributing tank on top of the house.
It actually isn't that bad, and is just a routine.
What is bad is if something happens to the motor.
On Saturday, the motor wasn't pumping any water, so I called a plumber, who charged me an insane amount of money (Plumbers ripping people off is a universal concept), to look at the thing. He told me the motor was old, and that it needed servicing.
So I had it serviced and he brought it back Sunday evening, but it still wouldn't pump. He said there might be an issue in the reservoir, but he couldn't work as it was really dark. So the next day he came, and had a look, and told me that a pipe at the bottom of the reservoir needed changing, and that was the real issue.
So 24 hours later, he fixed that pipe, and charged more freakin' money. The result? The motor still wasn't pumping water.
So today the landlord entered the picture, and the plumber had a look at the pipe that connected the motor to the reservoir. He said that is what was cracked, and he'd have to basically break the floor of my garage to fix that pipe.
Fuck.
