OK, I know the game is over a year old, but I think it really warrants some discussion.

I'm on my second play through the campaign.  The second time around you get access to weapons that weren't in the campaign the first time.  To me, that's a very good incentive to replay the game.  The weapons I've gotten so far can really change your fight strategies.  Some have very limited usefulness, so I can certainly see why they might not get included from the beginning.  The campaign was very fun.  It had a decent length without dragging out, and there were very few low points in the game.  I really like the alternate history and setting.

Resistance 2 looks to be even better.  IGN released some screenies the other day.  Hopefully they'll be able to make good on the 8 person coop and  60 man multiplayer (even though I can really see 60 man multi getting a little too hectic and detracting from the fun of it.  I kinda like the idea of a single player campaign and then an entirely different coop campaign.

Definitely the best game on the PS3 right now IMO (and yes, I realize that at this point that isn't saying much at all).

What kind of shooter is it? I've been tempted by this 60GB PS3 package they have here for $450, that includes the game.

It's CoDesque FPS fare.  Replace Nazis with an alien species, and provide much cooler weaponry.  Nice atmosphere/story.  I find a few issues with the game, but they're mainly nitpicky physics type stuff.  the AI is scary intelligent at times, but will do some stupid stuff in others.  You will fight heavies from time to time, that could be considered "bosses", but they're common enemies that you will see multiple times during the game.  A few great vehicle sequences.  I could go on and on.

Of the FPS's I've finished this year, it ranks right behind CoD4.  If I hadn't have played CoD4 first it probably would have blown me away.  I had more fun with this than Halo 3.  But I guess to some that doesn't mean much.

I have to admit that I really liked the look of the game from the screens they showed early on, and I was really taken with the visual thing for quite some time.  Unfortunately, most reviews I read seemed to be fairly average, so I just kind of assumed that it would be cool, but not as cool as it looked.  Though if I had a PS3, it would definitely be one of the first things on my list.  And I have no idea if those reviews are at all accurate, since at this point I've never even touched a PS3 at all even at a store or friend's house or anything, let alone played the game to any degree (and I only read a couple quick reviews).  Still, it's one of those things that I just sort of wanted to like from the beginning, and if it turns out as good as you say, that'd make me happy.  Since there's a remote chance I may get a PS3 now, the thought of going to look through some of the screens again is tempting...

I have to say, Resistance is one of the few instances where I feel the reviews were really too low across the board.  To me, this is a solid 9.0.  Course some games just click with me.  The last game I felt the same way about was Jade Empire.  I feel like it deserved a better score than it got too.
