I was just reading how the Apple TV Take 2 update was released today, thus enabling owners to download movies in HD now (I believe all the way up to 1080p).  This is probably the only really good thing about Apple TV as far as I'm concerned and I have a few hipster friends who are all over this. The thing I'm wondering, is how long would this take?  I mean, we're talking about multiple gigs for a video file.  Do you think this would be a multi-day affair for most people?  Because that's what would kill it for me if I ever were in the market.

High-quality 1080p video usually has an average bitrate of about 10 megabits per second. Most broadband connections are at least one megabit per second. A feature-length movie is usually around two or three hours long.

OK, so if it's 10 mbps playback speed, and 5 mbps download speed, a 2-hour movie would take 4 hours to get.  At 1 mbps, it would take 20 hours to get.

If this thread has taught me one thing its how incredibly stupid I am for not knowing off hand the bitrates of a 1080p HD movie and average high speed cable connection.  I think I'm going to go back to making little towers out of my alphabet blocks and then laugh and clap as I knock them down.
