Warhammer Online CE bonus features and beta access
« on: Sunday, March 23, 2008, 05:06:42 PM »
Thought some of you guys might have some interest in Warhammer Online, so I decided to post this. Apparently there's some big event happening on Wednesday, and it's been all but confirmed that it will be the announcement of the Collector's Edition.

Here's the rumoured extras:

In-Game:
-12 exclusive quests (two for each army) 12 exclusive quest rewards (one for each quest)
-12 exclusive character heads (probably 2 for each "race")
-Special player title

In-Box:
-Game on 2 DVDs
-Exclusive Mousepad
-WAR Graphic Novel
-Art Book/Atlas
-Exclusive Warhammer Miniature

If you preorder the CE, you get a beta access card:

This gives you guaranteed access to the open beta, which really isn't "open", but just bigger than the closed beta. Not sure if they plan on having a true open beta or not. Also for preordering, you get into their "head start program", which lets you start playing on retail servers earlier than the rest of the players. (I would guess at least 3 days early, probably not more than a week)

I'm not sure what stores are participating in this, but the one I know for sure is Gamestop/EB. I've been reading that a lot of stores are giving them out for CE preorders already, instead of waiting until Wednesday. I've also heard that some stores are giving them out for ALL preorders, not just the CE version of the game.

I've been waiting for a game to replace my WoW gaming time, and I'm hoping this will be the one. I doubt it will ever be as successful as WoW, but hopefully it will be all the things I miss from Dark Age of Camelot, and none of the things in WoW that I've grown to hate.

When EA took it over, I lost all interest.

I became really skeptic when that happened, but the game looks like it's shaped up to be pretty good. I mean I can't say for sure until I've played it, but so much about it reminds me of DAoC. They even have a siege pvp system, something that I've really missed from DAoC. WoW promised it, but never delivered.

It's also a more PvP based game, so the ridiculous raid requirements will likely not be there. I've always raided in WoW because I like the complete experience, but its' gone to ridiculous extremes. The couple raids I went to in DAoC seemed more like a bunch of friends zerging big monsters. I also remember there being much less focus on items. Sure you'd upgrade armor and weapons, but you didn't spend all your waking time running instances for gear, instead you could buy crafted gear or world drops and do just fine. Also, instances pvp wasn't there, so there was a lot more pride in your alliance. Victories meant something other than 2 extra honor tokens.

Now I'm rambling, so I'll stop. I will horever post some leaked Witch Elf pvp video. (witch elves are like rogues, but with no stealth) This makes me thinkt he game actually has some nice, fast paced combat like WoW's. What WoW doesn't have though is the siege system, and the world pvp.

Am I going to have to create a Warhammer Online forum?  lol  I don't know what it is, but these types of games have the tendency to create their own foreign languages.  Muds, agro, instances, raids... I don't know what any of that shit means.

Hehe, I dunno, I think the WoW forums was mostly needed because of the volume of topics that were created about it. A lot of us here were playing it, and the scale of the game, as well as the variety of things to do in it, were pretty big.

For a while there I thought I might be the only one who's clueless.

My internet connection has improved for 500% thanks to ISP upgrades here, so I've been meaning to start on an MMO to see what all the ruckus is about. Its either this or Age of Conan.

Yeah, I'm going to suggest you don't do that.  They're not actually fun, they just trick you into thinking they are.
