Video-in for a laptop?
« on: Saturday, May 03, 2008, 04:05:28 PM »
See subject. I'm looking for the following features:
  • Composite and S-video inputs.
  • Connects via USB or Firewire, preferably Firewire. (ExpressCard would also work.)
  • Not prohibitively expensive (<$200, hopefully much less).
  • Preferably, it works with OS X.
  • Preferably, it does not make video look like ass.
  • Optionally, a TV tuner.
  • Optionally, an ATSC tuner or some other HD input.
Does something like that actually exist? Newegg lists a bunch of video-in cards, but I understand most of them suck and/or cost well in excess of $300.

I think he just wants a usb/firewire device to connect to his laptop for under $200 which is much more reasonable. If you can't find it easily on Newegg I'm going to assume it doesn't exist.

I can find plenty of products similar to what I want on Newegg, I just can't find something that is what I want on Newegg.

And ren is right, what I want is an external video converter box that will connect to a laptop - not a laptop itself.
