Automated Mario levels?
« on: Monday, May 26, 2008, 05:32:05 PM »
This is the most indescribably unimaginable thing I've ever seen.  I had no idea Super Mario World could be hacked to produce self-playing auto-scroll levels, let alone use them as a sort of music box to sync up to some tune.  I hope whoever did this finds a more useful outlet for his talent.

That's bloody insane.  I was mildly amused at first, but thought I'd watch a couple seconds and be done, then I was sucked in, then totally flabbergasted, then just got to the point where I figured it had to have been done by a computer and not a man because that would be fucking impossible.  Then I went back to being somewhere between impressed, confused, and in disbelief, before it finished out.

I'd love to hear the real story behind that.

Popular anime tunes?  That song was godawful!  What's wrong with these people?!

Yeah terrible song, but cool shit. I can't imagine how long that took to make.

That was pretty cool, the music wasn't as bad as people made it out to be.  I recognized two of the anime themes, Lucky Star and The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya and those weren't the original versions.  All the tracks sounded like they were remixes of some kind with the same vocals, which isn't too uncommon in Japan.  The person who did this should have just used the original tracks, it would have been sounded better.

Only 3 of the songs were from animes if I heard them right.  The rest were video game tunes with vocals, some kind of odd remix.  They played "Prologue" from Final Fantasy IV, "Dr. Wily's Theme" from Megaman 2, and one of the Mario themes, still it would have been better if they had just used the original tracks.

This version dispenses with the vocals, replacing them with what sounds like a midi track of the same compilation tune, and at a lower volume--which lets you better appreciate the game's audio contribution.

I didn't notice Megaman, but I did notice the others.  I didn't think the music was that bad either.  Nothing to write home about, and obviously a medley of rerecordings, but it wasn't *that* bad.

That second video is better, the Mario sound effects stand out a little more.  Also I was wrong about the number of anime tracks, someone posted a huge list in those comments and there a lot more songs in there than I previously thought.

I watched it again.  I stand by my original statement.

The amount of time and effort that must have taken would have been insane.  I caught the Mega Man, Mario, and the Final Fantasy tunes, didn't recognize or know of any of the other ones.
