I was just beat by a giant enemy crab
« on: Saturday, August 23, 2008, 03:43:25 PM »
There is a new Facebook app put out by Wizards of the Coast, so its all official. Its Dungeons & Dragons: Tiny Adventures. You pick a character, name it, and then send it out on adventures. Each adventure has some encounters and depending on your luck, you beat or lose the encounter. When you pass an encounter to gain loot and XP.

Its not terribly interactive. Its mostly completely automated, and every 10 minutes or so you get an update on how your hero is doing. The one thing you can do is before sending your hero out, equip them with 2 health potions. Then at any time during the adventure you can decide to use them. Theres other crap to buy like weapons and armor, and the loot you pick up can be used or sold.

After an adventure your hero chills and heals up before you send him out again. The health regen is slow, so this is where the "zomg its facebook and social" part comes in. People on your friends list can see when your hero is healing up and by clicking a link, help speed up the process.

Anyway, I just ran through a game and figured I'd share. My character is an Elf Ranger. Female, because you don't get a choice with the predetermined characters.

Curse of the Wolf Moon
Difficulty: Level 1

The villagers are recovering from fending off a werewolf attack. The beast was slain, but its blood frenzy still possesses the injured villagers each full moon. Someone must travel through Felltooth Wood to find the legendary Mirror Lake of Felltooth Mountain. There blessed wolfsbane grows in the spray of the Singing Falls. It's the only cure!
Quote from: The adventure begins...
Collecting the herbs will require a long trek -- through the forest, across a mountain pass, and finally to Mirror Lake. Idola Mindas best get started!
Quote from: Encounter 1: Forest  (Traps)
Idola Mindas was following a trail through the woods when her foot was violently yanked out from under her. Her body followed, and she was suddenly upside down, swaying back and forth from a tree branch. Then goblins with big sticks emerged from the woods.

Idola Mindas made an Armor Class check with a difficulty of 26 . . . and rolled 28

The goblins took turns trying to smash Idola Mindas with sticks while cackling jokes to each other. Between her expert wiggling and her armor, Idola Mindas didn't receive any real injuries. She reached out with her fists and punched one of the goblins in the face. Their tone instantly changed and they scurried away from their dangerous prey. This gave Idola Mindas plenty of time to free herself and follow their fresh tracks.

Idola Mindas received 46 XP and 20 gold.
Quote from: Encounter 2: Forest
Idola Mindas was ambushed by a goblin blackblade! The blackblade lunged at her with a glinting dagger.

Idola Mindas made an Armor Class check with a difficulty of 24 . . . and rolled 17

Idola Mindas couldn't move aside fast enough and took a light stab to the arm. She finished the fight a moment later but, unfortunately, blood was now streaming down her arm.

Idola Mindas took 8 damage.

Idola Mindas received 20 XP.

Idola Mindas obtained a Crystal Orb!
Quote from: The adventure continues...
Idola Mindas crossed into the mountain pass, and her progress slowed.
Quote from: Encounter 3: Mountain
Three bugbears chased Idola Mindas across a rope bridge, hurling javelins (and insults) as they ran!

Idola Mindas made an Armor Class check with a difficulty of 26 . . . and rolled 17

Idola Mindas eventually managed to slay the bugbear patrol, but not before suffering injuries to her body (and pride).

Idola Mindas took 10 damage.

Idola Mindas received 16 XP and 7 gold.
Quote from: Encounter 4: Mountain
A wicked storm came through the mountain pass, and Idola Mindas needed to find shelter.

Idola Mindas made a Wisdom check with a difficulty of 12 . . . and rolled 18

Idola Mindas found a cave, started a fire, and waited out the storm in comfort. Even better, she came across a stash of supplies, evidently left behind by a less fortunate traveler.

Idola Mindas received 55 XP and 3 gold.

Idola Mindas obtained a Oak Staff!
Quote from: The adventure continues...
Finally, Idola Mindas arrived at Mirror Lake, where the herbs were known to grow.
Quote from: Encounter 5: Lake
A dire toad my sound comical but, to the fishermen it's been eating, not so much. The fisher's guild was offering a reward to anyone who could slay the beast.

Idola Mindas made an Attack Bonus check with a difficulty of 14 . . . and rolled 20

Idola Mindas, fist in hand, waited in ambush until the huge toad came into view. The battle was over in a flash, a single blow was all it took to end the amphibious reign of terror.

Idola Mindas received 55 XP and 3 gold.

Idola Mindas obtained a Dagger!
Quote from: Encounter 6: Lake
A lizardfolk warrior charged up the beach as terrified fishermen fled in its wake!

Idola Mindas made an Armor Class check with a difficulty of 25 . . . and rolled 34

Idola Mindas charged in to meet it, and a mighty battle ensued. At last, the beast lay defeated, and the fishermen rewarded Idola Mindas well for her aid.

Idola Mindas took 1 damage.

Idola Mindas received 55 XP and 7 gold.

Idola Mindas obtained a Crystal Orb!
Quote from: Encounter 7: Lake
Idola Mindas was enjoying the beautiful weather at the edge of the lake when a giant crab appeared!

Idola Mindas made an Armor Class check with a difficulty of 26 . . . and rolled 16

The beast's claws and shell were a whole lot stronger than Idola Mindas's weapon and armor. It was crushing Idola Mindas in its claws by the time she found a spot soft enough to get an attack through. Idola Mindas stabbed the crab repeatedly in that spot, eventually defeating it. Idola Mindas dragged the beast inland and sold its meat to the local fisher's guild.

Idola Mindas took 11 damage.

Idola Mindas received 22 XP and 6 gold.
At least I hit its weak point for massive damage.

At this point I had taken too much damage and was unable to reach the last encounter of this adventure. Bummer. I'll just heal up, sell the crap I can't use and then try some more. Its too bad this is just a facebook app. It looks fairly nice, and its interesting. I think it would make a cool little desktop app. Something you can leave running and check in on the adventure while you're doing other stuff.
