Metalocalypse
« on: Tuesday, October 17, 2006, 01:20:44 AM »
Who else watches this show?  If you don't what it is, you should, its one of the newer shows on Adult Swim about a metal band named Dethklok and the chaos and mayhem that surrounds them.  Not only is the show really funny, but the music fucking kicks ass.  This is probably my favorite show on Adult Swim besides Venture Bros.  They have had several musicians guest star, including Metallica, Nevermore, King Diamond, Archenemy, and Cannibal Corpse.  They are planning on releasing an actual CD with some songs on it since the show has done so well and people have been bugging the Adult Swim staff constantly with requests for one.  I will definetely be buying a CD and the DVD of Season 1 when that comes out.  It comes on Adult Swim on Sunday nights but you can also watch a new episode every week on Adult Swim Fix at adultswim.com on Friday nights.  I've heard theres also videos on Google of the older episodes in case any of you want to watch the older ones.

Some links for you people:

Some clips of various episodes

The show's official page

And their MySpace page, yes I know MySpace is stupid but it has some of their songs and some other info on the show

EDIT: Also to double check, doing a search on Google video for Metalocalypse yielded all of the episodes except for the two newest ones.

Not bad, I like the big dude with black hair. He's pretty badass.

That would be the lead singer Nathan Explosion, I'm guessing.  Its funny how his voice is always really abrasive even when hes talking and how he half yell/sings things that need a lot of emphasis.

It's really quite a funny show.  Brendan Small is the creator, and he was also the guy who worked on Home Movies.  I had no idea he was a metalhead, but apparently he lives for the stuff and actually graduated from a music school.  He just decided to go into comedy instead.  His goal was to have a funny show and make fun of metal while simultaneously paying homage to it, and it's surprising how well he pulled that off.  It's totally stupid and funny, and it makes fun of all kinds of metal stereotypes, but then it guest stars the voices of all kinds of musicians (Jeff Loomis of Nevermore, my favorite guitarist, was also in there), and the guy goes out of his way to write music that he thinks is actually good, even if the lyrics are really silly.

But yeah, it's surprisingly good.  I wasn't sure if I'd like it at first, but thus far I have been thoroughly entertained.

I read an interesting bit the other day that said Small took all of the artists to a Behemoth concert when telling them what he wanted the show to look like.

The music in the show is absolutely amazing, especially last week's intro "Crush Your Battle Opponents Balls." HAH! Man, I'm glad someone else watches this. Me and my roommate are huge into death and black metal so we religiously watch it.

So far my favorite song has been Dethharmonic, the song they play with the London Philharmonic Orchestra before they got mutilated by lasers.

I'm sad because I missed a bunch of them.  I've only seen maybe 5.  I didn't see either of the ones you guys mentioned.

Well you can watch the first 9 episodes on Google Video and the latest episode is still up on Adult Swim's site, so thats only one episode you would miss out on(the London Philharmonic episode).  I'm sure people will upload the newer ones on Google soon.
