Epic fail.

I think the real pain probably came after he realized how short-lived internet memes are.

If I woke up with that on my arm I might have an aneurysm. The lack of adherence to proper grammar etched into my skin would just blow my mind.

With "All your base are belong to us", I think the lack of proper grammar is the point.

Anyway, I just visited http://www.geekytattoos.com/

Yes I am going to sound judgmental here, but I don't care. What the hell is wrong with these people? Why would you get massive tattoos of video game art on your body? I may not be as "hardcore" as I used to be, but even in my most addicted years, I would have never considered something as retarded as getting a massive Mario bros. tattoo on visible part of my body.

I was on Kotaku the other day, and saw some post showing a Kotaku fan with some massive Zelda tattoos on his arm, standing with a friend sporting some big pacman tats. I expected to see the vast majority of the commentators mocking the idiotic tats., but no! Most were quite impressed.

Apply that disbelief to all tattoos, and you get to my opinion of all skin graffiti.

I can understand certain gaming related tattoos. Things that would stand on their own as cool even if they weren't game related. Certain logos, for example. Quake 1 logo, Blood Eagle logo (from Tribes), various Wipeout logos, even the Gears of War logo is pretty cool in its own right. Something like that would look neat to everyone and have a little extra meaning to people that know what it actually is.

But a big giant "All your base..." tattoo? Ugh.

I think tattoos have lost a lot of meaning in general with their popularity. Very few people get interesting tattoos, or tattoos that mean something to them. They just get them because at that moment they thought they looked pretty, or they just wanted a tattoo and picked one out of a book. A permanent piece of art etched onto your body should have some meaning behind it.

Personally I don't really have anything I would want to be permanent. I've thought about learning to do henna tattoos that fade in a couple weeks, so I could then change the designs to what I wanted at the time.

I don't have anything against a tattoo that is tastefully sized, and artful looking, like a logo for example. Any tattoo can be nice regardless of it what it represents if it meets those two characteristics... yea, I agree with that.

And yes, if you want to go big and ugly, go for henna.

But yea a large mario on someone's ankle is just ridiculous to me.

A friend of mine has a Coy fish tattoo.  I call it a goldfish all the time because every single time it happens he has to turn to whoever is around and explain that it's actually a coy and then go on to list the reasons he has it etched onto his fucking arm.  Good times....

Isn't it a "koi" fish?

Anyway, yeah I am not a fan of tatoos either for the most part.  If I see anyone with tats on their arms I think they are complete trash.  I did contemplate getting tiger stripes as an arm band when arm bands were popular but I wisened up.

Yes.  Coy has no meaning other than the usual English.  Koi has several meanings in Japanese, but as far as sakana goes, it means "carp".

So even though you considered a really lame tat for yourself, you think other people who have them are trash?  That's pretty awesome of you.

Art?  Where?   :-\

I'm not even going to say what I was going to say.  I like you too much irregardless of this comment.

I can see it from both Ques and Cobras perspective, but I probably lean more in Cobras direction. The chick Que posted...thats a nice tattoo. Its nice art and would make a nice tshirt. But personally I don't think women need much improvement in the art department. They are fine to look at all by themselves.

I have seen chicks with some really nice tattoos that seem to "add" something to them. But a lot of people end up with really shitty tattoos in stupid places.

Tattoos on guys...whatever.

I have no issue with people liking or disliking the concept of tattoos in general, whether that be the concept of getting them or enjoying the sight of them on another person.  Generally speaking, I don't like chicks with tattoos either, mostly because 70% of the tats people get are stupid, ugly, meaningless, or some combination of the three.  But don't tell me you don't see art if you see a beautiful tattoo.  That makes you worse than a pathetic snob; it makes you an idiot.

Whatever, Que.  This is what I'm referring to:

At least an arm band can be hidden by any shirt that has some sort of sleeve.

So people who actually embrace the art are somehow less worthy of your respect because they can't go hide it at a moment's notice?

How am I to know whether or not someone has a tattoo if it is hidden?  Of course this is the part where you say that this makes it unfair of me to judge people for having a tattoo when there are people that could have a tattoo or tattoos I am not aware of.  To that I say simply this:  people that I have met that have full sleeve arm tattoos have all been complete trash and so when I see people that have them I (naturally) assume them to also be trash.  If a person has a tattoo I can't see, I don't think about it and it doesn't factor into any sort of equation as far as my impression of them.  Is this fair?  To be honest I haven't really thought about it until now and now that I have... I don't care.

Anyway I'll end this by simply saying I agree with Cobra about all this.  Tattoos are not art and are never attractive or beautiful.

Maybe I should temper that a bit.  I haven't seen one that I would consider attractive or beautiful.

I don't even know how to respond to such an unapologetic display of a judgmental attitude.  And that's saying something, coming from me.  Kudos.

EDIT - I'd also like to point out how fucking weird you all are.  I posted a picture of a guy with "all your base are belong to us" on his arm.  How the fuck did you manage to turn that into this?  I'd be impressed if I wasn't sickened by the fact that your need to degrade people of different tastes than your own is stronger than your desire to have a giggle over a silly picture.

dude, different people have different opinions and they might not always be the same as yours. if i saw someone wearing an ICP shirt, i'd think of them as trash, some people feel the same about tattoos. everyone's judgemental, just about different things.

anyway - i think tattoos are badass. i also think they're a bit too permanent. if i could make my mind up about something to get that i was sure i wouldn't regret in ten years time, i'd get it - but i don't think such a thing is possible. also i don't mind girls with tats, but that koi one... no chance. it's a massive fucking fish. i know it's more traditional, but it's about as cliché (and far weirder) than a butterfly tramp stamp..

Just because I see someone wearing an ICP shirt and I think ICP is trash and hence said person may have rather shit taste in music doesn't mean I immediately go and call them trash.  Just because I see an idiot obsessing over his fucking iPhone all day doesn't mean I think he's trash, even if I hate Apple-worshipers.  Just because I see some guy who doesn't agree with me over politics or religion doesn't mean I think he's trash for having different opinion.

I'm going to be getting another one or two pretty soon that I've been wanting to get for years but haven't had the money for, though general considerations for my station more or less prevent me from getting anything like a full sleeve.  Most likely I'll be getting one for my left shoulder and another for my back.

What'll your sleeve be?  Please tell me it's all Link and Zelda with a side of Donkey Kong.

Tattoos make women hotter. Both the ones already posted in this thread are great. However I do think certain things are lame. The onyl reason I don't have any tattoos myself is because when I did have the money on hand, I couldn't think of anything I'd want pasted onto my body for the rest of my life.

Here's a contrast to this argument: Kat Von D (some hot chick with lots of tattoos, I think she's a tattoo artist herserlf) has a makeup line for covering up tattoos. I find this offensive, that someone would be willing to put amazing art on their body, and then stoop to hiding it to gain the acceptance of anyone else. When you get that tattoo, it becomes part of you. It doesn't need to disappear because you put on a suit or a nice dress. You're just as attractive and respectable in a suit with tattoos and you are in a suit with no tattoos. If someone has a problem with that, fuck them.

I think of tattoos as graffiti.  I think they debase people's looks, particularly women.  It is absolutely a judgment call, one I don't apologize for.  After all, it's only a superficial assessment.  If the tattoo-laden individual is a terrific chef, or accountant, or limo driver, I'll happily hire them for their services.  I would have no trouble befriending them platonically either.  I've had my share of ugly friends.

I've seen some tattoos that I thought were nice - mostly small, meaningful tattoos that clothes cover up. My cousin has a tattoo in remembrance of her brother that passed away that I like.

I normally don't like larger, more visible tattoos, and don't find them at all attractive on women. Still, I appreciate it as an art form. To each his own.

Yeah, I know. That doesn't make it better. It's like double negatives for me. I still get agitated when I hear "I ain't got nobody" which to me just ranslates to "I don't have nobody, therefore I have somebody."

Mine actually isn't going to be a sleeve, Que (although I just reread my post and I realize why you would think that - haha).

I think I'm going to start with something more concealable.  I really like a lot of the Sailor Jerry old school naval tats.  The coloring is great (dark reds, greens) and the designs are fairly simple.  I've been thinking of getting a non-patriotic looking eagle with some kind of red background for upper left chest/pec area.  It'll only get seen when I'm at the pool or in the bedroom, as I figure.  The sizing will be about fist size.  I just need to get an artist to draw one up for me.

As far as meanings and what not: I'm getting it for myself, not for anyone else.  I don't feel particularly obligated to explain what it means or why I want what I want.   :)
Suck it, Pugnate.
