Someone tried to hack me
« on: Monday, October 23, 2006, 02:01:39 PM »
My remote desktop has been extremely slow today.  Usually this is because my brother is doing P2P stuff.  So I filtered out his MAC address.  Normally, this makes it so fast it's like I'm sitting there.

But this time, it was still super-slow.  So I rebooted.  Still slow.  So I check my event viewer in case my computer is having some sort of problem.  I start with the Applications section and see nothing of note, then go to the Security section.  There are hundreds of login failures on account Administrator from 10/14.  They are all like a millisecond or two apart.

So it was kind of scary, but at the same time not a big deal because you can't even log in to my Administrator account from Remote Desktop.  I have it disabled.  So someone wasted a bunch of time, basically.  Even if it wasn't disabled, I have a password that even a computer would take forever to guess, and I allow only 3 login failures before a 20 minute lockout.  It would have taken centuries to get in.

I've adapted a new password since everyone knows my old one.  This one is absolutely impossible to guess, and I doubt even a computer could get it unless it cycled through all the possible random letters and numbers allowed in a 16 character password since it's not a word or anything.

Something is wrong with my computer.  After the reboot, I got one of those "Windows recovered from a serious error" thingies.  Then not long after, I lost the connection and now I can't reconnect.

Dammit Ghandi!  I know you're pissed that the Panthers lost, but that's just uncalled for.

Turns out nothing is wrong with the computer.  The Internet is just f-ed up.  Have to call Cincy Bell.

Man, does anyone else remember those idiotic "Switch" commercials? The ones that sort of made it sound like getting a Mac was analogous to changing sexual orientations?

Stretching this analogy, Windows is an STD-ridden crack whore. I guess that makes OS X a stuck-up bitch, but damn she's hot (plus you don't need a condom (guys should assume she's on the pill)).
