Picked up a new monitor
« on: Monday, September 21, 2009, 12:50:45 AM »
So a couple weeks ago my 19' widescreen monitor (thats about 5 years old tops) starts acting up. It has this color artifacting that would show up for particular colors, it wasnt too intrusive but annoyed me enough to upgrade to another one. So I shopped newegg for a little while till I found a deal worth jumping on. I picked up this 23" Acer monitor for $180 including tax with free shipping. Its looking great, going from 19" to 23" is a world of difference, still cant get over how freaking huge it feels.

However I am catching a stuck pixel here or there. At first I caught one and looked up ways to remove it. I tried out various methods but none worked, so I quit bothering with it and shut it off for the night. After coming back and turning it on I noticed it was gone. When its on for about 10 minutes I notice another one in a different spot, its of a darker color so its less noticeable. I thought about sending it back, but now Im wondering if its just something its doing because its brand new and will go away after some use. It is just stuck pixels, not dead ones as they are not black ones. Has anyone had a similar experience with this?

Stuck pixels could go but no guarantees.

I so like to buy screens locally because of that, and to make sure I like the visuals overall.  I returned an Acer because of one bad pixels, got an "equivalent" in return from the store.  It turned out not to be equivalent at all, with a much flimsier stand and 4 stuck pixels.  That went back, and I finally got what I wanted.

I find them wholly unacceptable.  They'll try to convince you that a few is "normal".  I wouldn't let them.

I've been lucky and haven't yet had to deal with that, so unfortunately I am not helpful.
