« on: Tuesday, October 06, 2009, 06:00:16 AM »
GameSpy's got a list of their Fav. 25 PC Games from the 1990's.
They'll be trumping 'em out, day-by-day.

And of course, share your thoughts, memories, and all of that jazz on these games.
And if you like, toss in some of your favorites PC games from the 90's that ain't on the list, if you like. :)

I'll update this first post daily, updating GameSpy's list, as they reveal more and more...

Day 1
Wolfenstein 3D (1992)
The Secret of Monkey Island (1990)
Warcraft II: Tides of Darkness (1995)
Everquest (1999)
X-COM: UFO Defense (1993)

Day 2
Doom 2: Hell on Earth (1994)
Star Wars: Dark Forces (1995)
Day of the Tentacle (1993)
GTA (1997)
Lemmings (1991)

Kind of odd they would put both Doom and Doom 2 on the list as separate entries.

Quote
id intentionally designed Doom (and Wolfenstein 3D) for easy modification, and this foresight resulted in one of the strongest and most enduring communities to ever gather around a game (or developer).
Really? I thought that, at first, modding Doom was very difficult and not really "planned". People just hacked stuff themselves and made their own tools.

I think they actually went with it after people started modding Wolf3D.  And for that time, "official support" certainly wasn't what it is now.

I think 25 is too small of a list.

How can Thief: The Dark Project and Planescape: Torment NOT be on the list?

I don't think Doom 1 and 2 need to be on there. One 2D old-school Doom is enough -- whether Doom 1 or 2 is on the list. Especially since they also got Wolfenstein and (two) Quakes on the list, as well.

It's a solid list I think, though I've never heard of outcast until as of recently. Lists are overdone and really don't mean anything, they are just there to collect web hits as people just argue at what is missing on there... like Fallout.

Oh yeah, Fallout belongs on there, for sure.
