"It'll be hard not being involved in MGS5, but I've got the utmost confidence that Hideo Kojima, Ken Imaizumi, and our amazing team will put together another blockbuster game," Payton told Kotaku in an interview regarding his departure.

That's odd. I distinctly recall Kojima stating that MGS4 will be the last MGS game he would work on.

Well, whatever they do with MGS5, I hope they jump on to the next generation of heroes and nostalgically refer to the past ones.

Hasn't he said that about all of them?

Well the time has come to finally dive into this, well almost. Right now I'm playing through the others prior to 4. I'm currently working my way through MGS3, I've pretty much been playing through the game parts as quickly as possible and just watching and enjoying the story. Its such an incredible and wild ride going through these games, and its still making me wonder how the fuck can you make an ending for all of this madness?! The visuals in MGS2 and 3 still hold up fairly well I think, especially after playing through the first one. I almost started to think I wasn't going to ever get around to playing MGS4 since I always thought of it as this huge event, I knew I had to play through the rest of them to get a good grip on the story again but wasn't sure if the mood was ever going to grab me. But this is it, its finally coming to an end... I'm scared.

Epicness.

You know, MGS2 is a fantastic-looking game.  That opening area on the boat still looks fucking amazing for a PS2 game.

Yeah that part you texted me about this morning...  It's like the ultimate in fan service.

I actually got it a few weeks ago. I'm still so wrapped up in "Demon's Souls" though.

This is one of the few games that I've played through more than once.  An amazing game.

I finally got around to starting it this morning. I played it for 6 hours straight. It's awesome so far.

The only problem I'm having with it is following the story. I've played the last few titles, except for Portable Ops, and Snake Eater. So, I'm kind of lost in some areas of the story. And the story is so complex at this point, I'm having difficulty catching up.

So, I was kind of feeling slightly underwhelmed with the game. It was just feeling like a regular old shooter to me with some stealth stuff involved. Until I got a little further into it. I just got done beating the first boss, and it reminded me of how off the chain the Metal Gear series is.

For people who have actually finished the title, how long are the FMVs? Are the rumors about single ones crossing the hour mark true?

Scary, read some wikipedia articles on the series.  Pug, there are some pretty long ones in there.  Not sure about an hour (granted I haven't played the game since the week it came out), but there's a number of significant ones.

Now that I have a PS3, I have naturally ordered MGS4. Trouble is that I have never played a MGS title. I want to play all of them, and I would even sit through MGS1, but curse the lack of backwards compatibility! Grrr!

Is there some video that just tells us the entire MGS story? I remember there was something on gametrailers that basically covered the entire MGS saga till the beginning of MGS4.

Wikipedia helps as well.  I mean, I played and loved MGS4 without first playing the previous MGS games.

I had played MGS1 and MGS2 before MGS4, and while they're not absolutely critical since MGS4 does a good job of rehashing old times, they did give me a sense of emotional investment.

Right now I'm trying to go through MGS3 Snake Eater but I'm really hooked on Dragon Age!

MGS4 has very few videos compared to realtime-rendered cutscenes. I have come across times when I'd sit there just watching a discussion for about an hour before any actual gameplay at all! Of course you do have the option of skipping as well.

I think there's some achievement for finishing the whole game in under 5 hours and the only way to do that is to skip all cutscenes.

I finished this the other day, needless to say it was a pretty satisfying and was happy in how clear and cut the way they explained it all. Even the very ending still took me by surprise, Im glad I managed to keep in the dark about it all for this long without it being spoiled for me, there was many moments of surprise and giddyness, especially at those fan service moments. I want to check out the PSP games, Portables Ops and the upcoming Peace Walker.
