Civ IV is a great game.  This is a very good deal.  All those expansions plus no DRM, all for $20?  I wish I didn't already own the game.

Do they have a retail edition that has all that stuff in it?  I kind of want the expansions to try some mods out, but... yeah.  I'd almost be inclined to grab this pack for the price and all the stuff, but I do prefer a hard copy when I can get it.

Great game, either way.  I have the stock game, just no expansions.

Yes.
And that Civ 4 Complete retail box version also has No DRM, as well.

This is one of those games I do not recommend getting because it will EAT AWAY AT YOUR FUCKING LIFE... TAKING ENTIRE WEEKENDS AWAY!!!!!!

Civilization IV was as addictive as any installment in the franchise.

I held off buying it because the series has the same control over me as poon does on GPW, and I knew what would happen... which it did. An entire weekend was wasted on this... I had no concept of sleep, food was ordered on the phone next to me... I was getting up, playing the game, and then going to sleep in daylight.

I think by the time Monday came, my internal clock was totally screwed up. I was left feeling extremely shitty (I get a headache when I don't sleep and wake up on time) and quite quite guilty for the time wasted.

It was nice in a way... it reminded me that I still had it in me to get hooked on a game like this.

To answer Que's question, yes it is available at retail. Yes it is the most compelling game of all time and totally worth the money.

We played a few games MP and I have to say it was very compelling in that regard.  Tons of fun to just chat on Teamspeak and play.  The only downside is the same downside that MP Civ has always had... when somebody gets annihilated and there's nothing anyone can do.  So he just kind of gets to either sit there, or a new game has to be restarted.

Haha during the first weekend I was totally hooked on SP. The next weekend I tried playing on LAN with my sister.

To be honest, I had been avoiding the game and actually got it because of my sis, who was the one who had bought it. Her logic was that if Civilization Revolutions was so fun on the 360, naturally the PC version would be TONS better. Yes I have trained her well.

So I was quite surprised when I walked into her room and saw her playing Civilization IV... and it didn't take long for me to install from her copy.

When we played on multiplayer, I think we started at 9 pm and kept playing till 6 in the morning. Basically we made the mistake of taking on the biggest possible map with the most civilizations. We also shouldn't have gone for the turn based system, because in the end it was taking whole minutes to get a turn.

Good thing the game has a sound alert for when it is your turn. While we were playing, I walked into my sister's room and saw her messing around on the internet awaiting her turn.

I just got this and I can attest to the fact - I started a game and 3 HOURS LATER I'm just really getting started with my empire. I thought half an hour had passed. Lots of fun.

I've accepted peace from my neighbors, but it's all an illusion. My cities are well fortified - walls and archers, but nothing else at the moment to arouse suspicion. I've ramped up scientific research to the max. Soon I will acquire gunpowder and start quickly building an army to decimate everyone. Mwahahahaha...

I don't know what difficulty you are playing at, but trust NO ONE! They are all waiting for you to slip.

Keep all the border cities well defended with plenty of units, and keep upgrading them when you get new tech.

Other thing is that it is an excellent idea to expand the borders as much as possible, but don't make the mistake of having vast spaces between cities. Try to have as many cities as possible.

Keep your laborers automated. Always have them working about.

Remember, it may be fun to lie and cheat and screw your relationship with other civs, but they will gang up on you. Maintaining relationships with other civs in the game is an art... it really is.

Yeah, this is my first game and it's on a fairly low difficulty.

You say keep the workers automated, but I think it's better to instruct them what to build. Do they assume that you need a farm over a mine, etc, when you automate them? I've done it for a few and I guess they build roads and stuff, but for forts and other structures it seems like you need to control them yourself.

Also, I guess I'm used to the console version (where you cant build alliances), but that is possible in this game?

Once automated they will build a mine on a gold resource, a barn on a horse resource etc. They do give priorities to connecting cities though. But yes, you could get the most important things done first and then set them to automate.

Remember to check the details of every city to see if there is more food available than the population level. Later you can trade for food, or build harbors which mean easy food soruces.

As for alliances, they are possible, but I always used to avoid them, because my allies would just start building cities in my territory.

Then I'd just have to betray them.

Bastards.

Remind me, if you become ruler of a country, not to ally with you. :P

Thanks for the tips.

We need to play this online. Soon. Interested?
