Cleaning / taking apart PS3

My PS3 stopped working ages ago and I'm going to take it apart to clean it if a lens cleaner doesn't work. The warranty is null already so there's no reason not to. I've found some guides and whatnot online but was wondering if anyone here has done it before or has any advice on the matter.

One of my friends did this for his co-worker's PS3 and said it was a fairly easy and straightforward process and was able to fix it after cleaning it.  I'll ask him if he did it on his own or if he found a website or something for reference and let you know.

I fixed a couple friend's disk read errors on ps2s back in the day. I was amazed how easy it was. Best of luck.

So, new question: any suggestions on where to buy PS3 parts? I'm pretty sure that my motor is shot.

Yea search for a broken PS3 on eBay.

If it costs you more than $20 (like say $50), I'd recommend you just take the hit and get a new one. As I learned the hard way, getting electronics repaired is hardly ever worth it. In the long run, you actually end up paying more, because you are going to be buying it brand new again eventually.

Insane.

I'd say it would be worth it for those who do this on a regular basis, but not for someone who wants to repair just one.

A hundred bucks is a lot for something that doesn't turn on. I wonder if people are buying them for parts, or if they believe they can fix them and resell.
