I bought the Home version back when it was a cheap ($50) preorder.

Ultimate, but I got it for $80.  I have connections with Microsoft.

I voted XP until I realized it said "Windows 7 XP".  I don't have Win 7.

I just recently upgraded to Windows 7 Home Premium when I built my new PC and I'm loving it so far.  I paid about $80 for an OEM version.

I get what he is trying to say with Windows 7 Vista. :P

edit:

I meant to say I have Win 7 ultimate on my laptop.

Windows 7 Pro since that's what the student edition is.

I heard somewhere that the RC keeps working if you set the date back a few months.  Not sure if that's true or not.

I'm still on XP, so that's what I voted, ignoring the 7.  Home Premium seems popular from what I see out there.

It worked. I can't believe that simply changing the clock was all it took.

I think I'm gonna upgrade anyway soon. I found that my school has a deal where the 7 ultimate upgrade is only 20 bucks.

Be careful with school shit.  When I first got Vista Ultimate from school, it was 32-bit only.  When I contacted Microsoft about obtaining the 64-bit version, they said that deal is only for the retail version and they don't do this for the student version.  I went back to school asking for the 64-bit version and they said they only sold the 32-bit version.

I'm not sure if this is the case for Windows 7 or not.

Un-purchased Edition.

[No, I didn't pirate Win 7 - screw piracy.]
[I still use Win XP and have not bought a new Win 7 equipped PC.]

My school sells both versions. The only problem I can see coming is that it is an upgrade. My copy of xp is also from school and does not have a cd key.

Your copy of XP must contain some sort of answer file that pre-fills the key at install time or something like that.  Every copy of XP is keyed.  You can get the key with Magic Jellybean Keyfinder.

And thanks, this is probably going to save me a headache later.

I am using Win7 64 bit on my laptop, and while it is really good... it just feels like Win Vista with another service pack.

Vista is actually pretty good now after SP3.

There are a few things I don't like about 7.  For instance, I don't like how the Pictures link now goes to the Pictures library.  Really this goes for all those libraries.

This seems like a good idea at first until you realize that anything in your libraries is available on Windows Media Center.  There is a reason I have pictures in my own Pictures folder rather than the Public Pictures folder.  So to prevent my eight year old stepson from seeing them via Windows Media Center, I have to take my personal Pictures folder out of the library (I tried unsharing it from the WMC interface, but all it does is take it out of the library).  Now it is annoying when I am trying to get to my Pictures folder because the easy link that shows up in most windows and dialogs just takes me to the Pictures library.  I usually have to go through the folder hierarchy and drill down to get where I want to go.

That seems like a step back rather than forward.

That said, the new taskbar is completely awesome.  Like the Mac OS X dock, but better.
