I have the feeling I have been "laid off". I use quotations because I have no idea what's going on here. I missed all of last week because of school/illness, and although I was able to work on Friday, there wasn't any for anyone. Fast forward to today, I haven't been able to get a hold of the guy since Monday. I have left voice messages, I have tried to find him, and I have even left text messages (something I do not feel comfortable with, but he seems to love). I've received one message back saying "come by and see me tomorrow bud". That was monday night. I haven't been able to find him since.
This wouldn't be a case of me disappearing last week and him being pissed. He knows the deal with school, and we have an arrangement. Being sick isn't something that's controllable from either end, and really, they didn't have the work anyways.
Now, if I am laid off, that's understandable. You have 20 guys on payroll, and maybe enough work for 10 of them. Many of us are also above the pay grade of the work they have right now. I wouldn't be pissed about that - I've been expecting it. I work a flex schedule, and even though he has said to myself and others that I'd be one of the last to go, that wouldn't really make sense. I go to school full-time and have a high workload, which means I have to leave early two to three days a week and there are times when I can't make it in with very little notice. I'd totally understand and do the exact same thing.
What I find completely ridiculous is that he's not laying me off...he's invisible. I don't know what the fuck he is hiding from, but if you're getting rid of someone, you actually have to tell them. I've been proactive and have other options and possibly jobs lined up, but I can't move on anything until I talk to this guy. Quite frankly, it's bullshit. I shouldn't have to try to contact you multiple times a day about something like this, let alone multiple days in a row.
So, now at this point I have to desperately try to track him down tomorrow, find out if I can get some vacation pay for the two weeks of work I've missed, and figure out what the fuck is going on. Either way, I'm probably gone, but this is fucking retarded.
