AAAARGH
« on: Friday, May 14, 2010, 08:34:25 AM »
fucking windows. been trying to fix various networking / profile / active directory issues for the past few weeks and i swear this setup is fucking with me. everytime i fix something, ten more things break. i'm the only person who knows a thing about computers here, and our IT support line seem as confused as me. i want to smash every machine in this fucking building into tiny, tiny pieces.

maybe i should become a plumber. pipes sound easier.

Which Windows version?  No doubt Scott will make an appearance.  I'm outdated, and I was never good at networking.  Just getting 3 PCs to see each other over a LAN can give me fits.  Sorry to hear you're having so much trouble with this.

Profile issues?  Are you guys doing roaming profiles?  Kill that shit right away.  It causes so many headaches that it's just not worth it.  Just redirect My Documents and, if you have to, Desktop.

yeah, we're doing roaming profiles. creating new accounts and changing them to roaming seems to have stopped working. something i've done hundreds of times before, but now it just doesn't want to know and i can't figure out why. just got home and my brain is too frazzled to consider whether your option would be appropriate for our setup or not.

just as i was sending an email to head office, requesting they get someone down for a second opinion on everything, my email account decided it didn't exist any more. when i rebooted, my email was back, but the desktop background had vanished. oh yeah, that thing i posted on the help board about the NTUSER.dat/man file - that's back with a vengeance. got zero explanation for that one and neither does google.

there's several dozen other things that seem to be completely fucked too. everything's been pretty much peachy since i replaced the server last year, but over the last month it's started to fall apart utterly.

i'm not looking for a solution, i just needed a good old fashioned rant before i try and hang myself with a network cable.
