Inside info on Tribes: Vengeance

Interesting.

This thread on Tribalwar has some T:V devs and other people involved in the making of the game show up and talk about some behind the scenes type stuff. Look for posts by Mareas, Thrax Panda, and Menzo...as well as some of the TW admins and mods. For example:

Quote
Just a quick off the top of my head, we reviewed most of the major engines out there at the time we (Sierra & Irrational) started development, including Unreal, Source, NDL's NetImmerse, CryTek, etc. From those we selected the Source engine, but our president at Sierra at the time (Mike Ryder) said we couldn't use anything that had anything to do with Valve, and told us we would use the Unreal engine instead. I believe Unreal was our third or forth choice. To be fair, the engine wasn't bad once we had finished our modifications to it, but it still had some limitations we would have rather avoided.

Tribes on Source? I wonder how that would have ended up (since all I've seen from Source are tiny little maps). Anyway, theres some other stuff in the thread if you're interested. Theres lots of bitching about everything from the regulars...but what else is new?

It would have been great if they incorporated bots in the multiplayer since the game was a total bust in that area because no one played, but I still would have liked to mess around with it.
