New Radiohead on Saturday

Digital download available on Saturday followed by a cd release in March and a special edition in May.

I'm excited. Every album they blow me away with a different sound. Hopefully this one continues the pattern.

I saw an ad for it the other day, I'll definitely be checking it out at some point.

Anybody listen to it? I didn't feel strongly about it in any direction upon first listen. That was a bad sign since I usually either love or hate Radiohead albums and then eventually they all grown on me.

This one I like to have on when I'm studying because it's not bad but it's not good enough to distract me from what I'm doing.

I heard that Radiohead released this album directly, without a record label! If that's true, that's frickin' fantastic!

Radiohead had a six-record contract with EMI. In Rainbows was their seventh album so that was released independently as well. That's how they pulled off that whole pay what you want scheme.

Yeah, that was a decent album too.

I think Radiohead are spearheading a new campaign of artist/fan appreciation, cutting out the middleman (record companies).

I would move it up from decent Radiohead album to my favourite Radiohead album.

Also, this Radiohead-Dave Brubeck mashup needs to be seen.

Ha!  Great juxtaposition.  5/4 time was had by all.   :)

I'm getting to like the new Radiohead album too.  I've been playing it fairly often.

So I've listened to the new album a couple of times and I am enjoying it.  Really digging the first track "Bloom".

I am saddened that no one commented on the review I posted...

I read it, and it left me cold.  All that wordy analysis is meaningless to me.  Music affects me at an emotional level, as a whole work, to the point where the lyrics of most songs alone don't stay with me.  It's hard to describe.  When I think about a song, it plays in my head as beats, melodies and harmonies, where voice is only one part in the mix--and another instrument, not language.  The memory is very different from that of, say, a poem, which would make me remember the words and their implications.

Anyway, I did read it.  But I didn't get enough out of it to post about it.

Not until this moment.  I'll have to go read it again.

Edit:  OK, sure it's obvious now.  I didn't even catch the made-up song titles before.  I didn't even see the outrageous stuff in the sidebar until now.  Ah well.  Satire missed gets egg on anyone's face.  I need to go wash . . .

It's part of the joke.  I seriously didn't realize it was satire until they wrote about Thom's love of pussy.

Sort of underlines how pompous Radiohead reviews (and perhaps the band) have gotten.

I didn't read it simply because I wanted to listen to the album and figure out how I feel about it before reading somebody else's thoughts.

On the pompousness, I tend to dislike anything I've ever heard Thom Yorke say. Radiohead is awesome but I don't need to know anything about them beyond their music.
