Folklore for the PS3
« on: Wednesday, October 03, 2007, 02:15:29 PM »
I just watched the IGN video review for this action-adventure game -- this really is a really purdy looking game. Looks like something up Que's alley, in the artistic department and all.

Now, Que might like that the game is told in a few different styles; one style is the usual CG stuff; Another style is in-game cut-scenes; Another style is the usual type of RPG fan-fare, through dialogue trees, but w/ comic-book style bubble pop-ups for the dialogue; then there's another style this game uses to tell the story's narrative in just poses w/ the comic-book bubble pop-ups for dialogue.

After each chapter, you are given the option to play every chapter as either Ellen or Keats. Depending on whom you pick, storyline-wise, that chapter will be told from their very own perspective.

Though, IGN does pick on the fact that gameplay-wise, both Ellen and Keats play too much alike...

I actually played the demo of this game and I highly enjoyed it, I liked playing as Ellen a little more than Keats and the boss battle at the end of Ellen's chapter in the demo was very fun.  When I get a PS3 in the near future I will picking this game up.

That is officially the first game to make me want a PS3.  That looks absolutely great.

I just snagged this on clearance from Target for 15 bones.  Gonna give it a shot once I get back home.

You're not the first person I've heard say Target was putting it on clearance, thats so weird that only they are doing it.  If I had known earlier I would have returned my copy unopened and nabbed one at Target.  Oh well, I'm enjoying the game enough to warrant the $60 cost, hopefully you'll enjoy it too.  I'm on Chapter 3 with Ellen and Keats and I've liked it so far.

Yeah, I went out to Target to try and find it and they didn't even sell it at mine.  As in it was never even stocked.  I didn't have much choice since their website was asking the full price as well.  Reports are all over the place of it being discounted there, though, so it's definitely worth a shot if you have any near you.

I'll probably get into this soon now that I actually have a TV that can display it properly.

I'm really enjoying this, just to give the thread a bump.  Haven't given it the attention it really deserves, but it's a truly beautiful little game that's a lot of fun to play, even if the mechanics could be a bit deeper.  On the whole I think it reviewed well under what it should have.  It's a much better game than it's often made out to be.  Not revolutionary in any sense, no, but it's got a unique theme that's very well presented, and a cool story that combines brilliantly with some equally cool storytelling methods.  It definitely isn't the next Okami or Zelda, but its got some muscle in areas where those games don't tend to.

I thought I updated this thread when I beat the game last month.  Anyways, I enjoyed this game a lot, the story moved a little slow the first couple of chapters but took off and was hard to put down afterwards to see how the story progressed.  I too think this game deserved higher reviews, but I enjoyed it and that's all that matters, glad to hear you're liking it Que.

I'd really like to play this game, but I'm still waiting on the PS3.  This is the second time I've watched the review in this thread and I only want it more this time.

Definitely has panned out to be a good game thus-far.  I've only done the first two chapters with the chick and the prologue with the guy.  What grabs me is how good the music is and how pretty the landscapes are.  The NPC's are whimsical as well.

In fact I'd go so far as to say that perhaps the game mechanic itself plays backseat to the presentation.
