Congrats Japan
« on: Sunday, July 17, 2011, 02:42:38 PM »
Wow, can't believe the result of the Women's World Cup Final, but it is what it is.  Credit Japan for being resilient and not giving up.  Not sure what was going on with the U.S.  After the second goal their defense just started to suck and then they just... wow I don't know what to say about the shootout.

That shootout was so horrendous.  I've never seen such bad PKs by the US.

Great game, though.  I'm still surprised they lost, as they seriously outplayed Japan for the vast majority of the game.

Oh well.
Suck it, Pugnate.

The shootout was a reflection of the first 30 minutes of the game.  You could take the Japanese goalie away, and they still would have missed.  So many unconverted opportunities that they deserved to lose.

Well he might be on to something because the Japanese players were most certainly mutants.  Looks-wise, at least.

But really good for them.  After all the turmoil that country went through this year, it must feel pretty good for them right now capturing that World Cup.

I thought they looked impressive.  What you called mutant struck me more like a cross between punk star and ninja.  They were quick, determined, and never let up.  The American team didn't seem to want it nearly as bad.  That's why it lost.  All other factors were in its favor.

I wasn't able to watch the finals or really most of the tournament at all. From the few games I did see though, I was impressed. Although the intensity is a far cry from mens soccer, the women played a much cleaner game, took far fewer dives and were actually enjoyable to watch. Men's soccer should take notes.
