Shadows of the DAMNED
« on: Thursday, September 16, 2010, 09:25:30 AM »
Its a horror shooter from Shinji Mikami (RE) and Suda 51. Theres a trailer on there too. It has a lot of talented backing it so I'm interested to see how this shapes up. It's nice to know that Suda is working on a game that a little more capability than the Wii.

Oh it also has the music by the guy who has done work on Silent Hill, Akira Yamaoka.

Fucking sweet!  Looking forward to this one ever since I heard about their "secret project" they were working on.  Has kind of a cool visual style going for it, can't wait to see more gameplay.

Sorry to bump this old ass thread, but this game is coming out in June so its not too far away.  I'm still looking forward to getting this on release day.  Here's a newer trailer for it they showed at GDC.

Giantbomb gives it 4 stars, sounds pretty good.

IGN gives it a 7.0. The reviewer is Arthur Gies from Rebel FM and he tends to be really crass against japanese games, he at least notes its worth checking out if you like its style.

I wish I wasn't broke now or I would have picked that up at midnight last night.  I will be getting this when I get paid on Thursday though.

So I just put my first few hours into this game and holy shit it is awesome.  First off this game is hilarious, everything from the dialogue, the voice acting, and the rampant dick jokes.  There's tons of references to horror movies and other pop culture.  I just finished a level that was nothing but an Evil Dead homage and it was completely awesome.  The game controls very similar to Resident Evil 4 and 5 but a little faster paced and isn't too hard to get into.  It definitely has a lot of style and you can see how each creator worked their own style into the game.  Surprisingly, it somehow manages to all work together very nicely.  The music and sound effects are great and is a very fresh departure from Yamaoka's Silent Hill work but some of his signature motifs work their way in there.  I can definitely see this game not being for everyone, its a very bizarre and wacky game and not everyone is going to dig the humor and crazy shit in it.  I really hope this game does well and these three guys keep working together to make more games.

Awesome! I really wanted to grab this, but Catherine and Alice are just too important to me. I'll have to wait for this one to drop in price, or at least to stay the same price long enough for me to eventually bite the bullet. I really want to check it out after reading Alex's review on GB.

I ended up finishing this tonight and I loved it.  It's about 10 hours long and I plan on playing through it again on the hardest difficulty since I only died a few times playing on normal.  This game was very well put together and never got too repetitive and keeps throwing new and crazier things at you.  This is exactly what Suda 51 has needed all these years making his crazy ass games, which is someone (Mikami) to add great gameplay to his insane and wacky ideas, which is something his previous games have always had a bit of a weak spot in.  I can't stress enough how much I hope that this game does well and that Mikami, Suda, and Yamaoka keep working together.

Damn man. I'm really sorry that I never jumped on this. Not only is the game super fun thus far, it's goofy (I really don't find this all that off-putting... yeah the humor isn't high, but this is hardly Duke Nukem level stuff, and it's very well-acted and natural), it's really quite pretty with some great sets and awesome monsters, and the soundtrack is fucking amazing.

I always wanted to try it but just never got around to grabbing a copy. It's finally cheap enough, and man, so fun. I'm looking forward to the next two acts.

Looks like Big Lots is going to have the PS3 version of this for $5 on Thanksgiving. Which is a weird day to do that sale but I guess regular price is $8.

I would be angry, but I have no idea where a Big Lots would be around here anyway.

I looked at my local big lots today and didn't see it.  I'd gladly pay 3 dollars more to not have to screw with the crowd.
