Why don't you give it a go, post your impressions, and I will invite him to interact with you guys here on this game.
So I bought Krater CE for $10 from GG - b/c I also wanted the Soundtrack. Been trying to do the game SP-style, before I hit the MP - since the MP Co-Op launched today.
Can you get the Krater dev' here still?
It's hard for me to kind of make out what this game really is - b/c feels like a mix of a few elements from a few different RPG genres here. It feels...like a cross b/t a ARPG and strategic-RPG. I like it, so far, though - it's quite cool.
It feels...like a cross b/t ARPG (loot-crazy game w/ some randomized areas) & a strategic party-based RPG game. Though, you only got 3 party members in your crew at once - and they all have their own skills each; only 2 skills, actually. You can buy people to join your crew (which you do name at the beginning of the game) and you can rename your crew's names, too. There's a "Recruit Area" and you can get plenty of people to join your crew and swap these guys in and out of your crew, when you want. Crew members can only go up to X amount of levels - and then they stop leveling-up. Dev's did this so you don't always keep using the same party members - to give it a more "mercenary" kind of feel. B/c fans complained and do want to stick w/ their party members, dev's changed things so you can "buy" their way into Boot Camp if you want them to keep leveling up to another X amount of levels.
Also, when you hit the game's "World Map" - you click where to go and you can run into "encounters" (sometimes random, sometimes plot-driven) with encounters on the map like in the original DA:O or the old-school Fallout 1 & 2.
Sometimes, when you run into a "dungeon" type of area - sometimes the area's a cakewalk and you can go full blown ARPG bash-style in there; sometimes it'll make your battle a bit easier to use strategy; sometimes, it's a down-right slaughterhouse if you don't use strategy. Depends on the threat-level given to you, when you enter the area.
Even though the game requires DX10, the graphics technically aren't anything special on the technical side - but I like the way they are designed. The art style and environments just look flat-out cool and different, compared to most games.
Music's great and has a unique vibe to it, from what I've heard so far. The atmosphere itself the game is great. You can talk to NPC's and besides them offering up your typical ARPG quests (kill X this, find X items) - they can give you more info in the game-world and whatnot. I do like where the story's going, so far - so I need to keep playing to see where this goes. Isn't much voice-acting, as this reminds me of older games where there's voice-acting when a NPC and maybe some voice-acting during key events in the game - makes sense, as this is an Indie game from a Swedish company.
