Heroes of the Storm

Cinematic:

Gameplay:

Dev interview:

Blizzards take on DOTA (formerly Blizzard All Stars). I do like the sound of some of the changes to the usual DOTA cloning. Removing last hits, leveling up is team-wide, shorter matches, different maps with different things to do in them. Could be pretty fun.

.... hero brawler?

Also, no wonder Blizzard makes such great games!

I like the changes then again at this point, after 3 years of development, the game better have something unique other than being able to play with Blizzard heroes.

It's unfortunate that they couldn't release this back in 2011 or so because the original idea was to have it as a mod for SC2 and I think it would've really helped get more people into SC2 in general.

These MOBA games have no appeal to me.

I got into the alpha earlier this year and redownloaded it after the wipe and big update a couple week ago. Finally managed to get the maps downloaded and so I've been playing bot matches today. Pretty fun, pretty fast. I like the maps have different objectives to shoot for, I like that last hitting isnt a thing, and there is no in-match shop. It's all very streamlined to make for quicker matchups. My bot matches so far have been about 10 minutes long, and a few player vs player replays Ive looked at they seem to be about double that.

I've leveled my profile up to unlock daily quests, but those can only be completed in co-op or versus. I believe co-op is humans vs bots and versus is humans vs humans. So I guess I'll try those out but I'm not sure how the lag will be. The bot matches I've played had a nice little warning flashing that I have lag (duh) but its worked quite well. Cant say I really noticed any lag. But I dont know how much of practice bot matches is run on my local machine. Guess I'll find out.

I attempted to play a couple games just now. That got messed up since some auto-updater program decided to kick on mid way through which destroyed my ability to play as if I wasn't handicapped enough.

One guy on our team was taking shit way too seriously. I mean, I'm new so I'm not good. Plus I lag so like whatever. I'm just joining random matches, you're going to win some and lose some. Things were going bad on our side and Mr. Serious starts talking shit to the team. Because nothing helps motivate people to do better than one asshole talking shit. We didn't manage to get some object in the map and so he starts with "Thanks a lot team." followed up by calling us "retards" twice because he misspelled it the first time. I give no fucks and was having fun anyway, so just to cheese him off a little I said "You're welcome."

And here is the response I got back.

I just laughed at him. We lost, I laughed some more. He reminded us how shit we all were. It must suck to have that much anger built up over a videogame.

To be fair, he was just really upset about ethics in videogame journalism.

Closed beta starts tomorrow...or whenever they get the servers back up so it could be Wednesday. Whats new? New stuff!

I'm excited for the new map and seeing the hero tweaks (I just spent some time today leveling up LiLi to get the 500g bonus before shes taken of free rotation, so it'll be neat to see how shes changed). I guess for those not currently in the testing, I imagine moving to beta means more invites will go out and of course it's getting closer to release.

Anyone here still want into the beta? They just sent me 4 keys to hand out so let me know if you're interested. Sadly, North America region only.

I just got into the beta and started playing it today.  Not sure what to think as of yet, having never played DotA or its variants before.

Not into this MOBA trend at all.  I won't be touching any of them ever.

Just felt the need to say that.
