I've seen this before and I have a hard time making heads or tales of it. Most of everything you look up leans heavily on it being propaganda or fear mongering. I'm also not really an expert on international economics to understand how it'll impact trade.

Sometimes there are things you should be afraid of. This is one of them. And none of us know the full implications because they've steadfastly refused to release the text. So even though it's been finalized, still no one is allowed to read it.

Yea I have been looking more into it. It's weird that trade agreements in the past haven't really delved into copyright infringement laws like this one has and why it's being talked about in foreign trade other than to keep everyone else from knowing about it.

That's why it's really scary, because it covers so much ground. They seem to be shoehorning a lot of stuff into it, a lot of which apparently is going to overwrite or sidestep existing law. That's the other reason it's scary.

Many times, I shake my fist at our government.  This is yet another one of those times.

How much longer will this go on before there is a revolution?  It can't last.

The TPP is officially dead.  The president killed it with an executive order.

Sadly, he didn't kill it for the right reasons. He doesn't give a shit about the environment, for instance.

Well, this is definitely one thing that he's done right. I was no fan of the TPP.

I was also not a fan, and we knew this was coming. Only problem is now going to be the renegotiation of NAFTA. We can only hope it's less of a nightmare than the TPP was, but I'm more than slightly worried.

Also glad it's dead.

It'll be interesting to see what the consequences of this are down the line. Will countries be less willing to dedicate years of effort and resources in creating trade agreements with the US knowing it's commitment is no longer as stable as it once was?
Will it lead to more, smaller agreements to mitigate that risk? Will other TPP countries try to make something with the leftover pieces and leave the US out of it?

Almost exactly a year later and it looks like the TPP may sign as soon as next week without the US. This time I'm actually a fan of it; all the copyright/IP stuff has been removed or severely cut down since the US was the country pushing for it.

I suppose no surprise there. I'm sure the not-stupid countries will enjoy the benefits.
