Full Bore - A hidden gem you should play

Full Bore site. Available on Steam and Humble (which has DRM-free copies as well)

This game had a kickstarter but I didn't back it. It had a split release and when part 1 was out I bought it and played through it. Really enjoyed it and was waiting for part 2. I never noticed when it updated to the full game but a recent Humble Bundle sale on the game reminded me of it and hey, its the full game! So I am playing again.

It is a really fantastic game. It feels like a Metroidvania of sorts, but it isn't. From the moment the game starts you have all the abilities you will need to get through the game and solve all the puzzles, and at first it doesn't seem like much. You play as a boar. You can move left, right, and down. No jumping. If there is a block you can dig through you can do so just by pressing that direction, including the one above you. Some blocks you can push. You can climb on top of blocks as long as they are only 1 higher than you currently are. And you have a stomp/headbutt move that will slam the block you are currently standing on, causing a small shockwave to surrounding tiles.

That is it for moves, but they have managed to build a long and fun game with just that. A variety of block types come together to offer a lot of really interesting puzzles to solve. Dirt blocks "hang" in the air, but cant move. Stone blocks fall if nothing is below them. Crates can be pushed, fall, and be dug through. You will come across more new blocks as you explore and more areas become accessible.

What I find really nice about this game is since you do not get any new upgrades or abilities along the way, the puzzles you come across you know you can solve if you think long enough. The blocks don't do anything weird or unexpected, it's all about planning the proper series of moves to do what you need to do.

What do you do? Collect gems that are hidden around the maps. I mean, you can see them but the trick is getting to them. The story starts that you accidentally end up in an empty vault and the Boss thinks you stole the gems. So you get shoved down into the mines to go find gems to replace the missing ones. Along the way you will find terminals and notes and it starts getting into some weird science experiments/occult/Cthulhu kinda stuff that you piece together. In addition to gems I'm looking for these dark orbs that will unlock some mysterious gate and also lighting up shrines that will do...I don't know, something. Puzzles! Wee!

I'm only about halfway through but can totally recommend this game if you're in a puzzling mood. It is really great and seemingly under appreciated since I don't see many people talk about it ever.

Yeah, this one has been on my radar. It really looked fun. I may never get it because of time constraints and such, but I'd like to.
