I'm going to get burned on eBay, I know it
« on: Wednesday, December 27, 2006, 02:39:33 PM »
Late last week, I bid on an eBay auction for Bengals-Steelers tickets for the game on December 31.  The seller had zero feedback, but it was a local person and I figured they were probably just some people that had tickets but couldn't go to the game and thought they'd try to get some money off of them on eBay.

So I won the auction for $355.  Actually, I lost the auction because I didn't meet the reserve, but they gave me a second chance offer and I accepted.  After the auction ended, I asked the seller if they could please provide a tracking number when they get one.  The seller responded almost immediately and said the following:

Quote
Hi Scott,
You are going to have so much fun!! We would be there, but the hubby has to work. Ill fedx these to you on Tuesday for overnight delivery. This will allow us to track them.
Tnks cjdonithan

I sent an e-mail to them first thing Tuesday morning reminding them to please ship out the item so that I'd receive it in time.  I didn't hear anything back from them at all yesterday.

I sent them another e-mail today asking if they managed to ship out the item yesterday, and if so to please provide a tracking number.  Again, I have heard nothing as of yet.

Now, I could very well go home today and find the tickets in the mail or at the doorstep.  After all, the earliest they could possibly arrive based upon the auction end time is today.  However, the fact that they responded so quickly to my first e-mail and that I have not heard from them since is beginning to unsettle me.

I get the feeling I'll be burned on the $360, or get the tickets on Tuesday or something, two days late.

Why didn't you arrange them to be picked up in person? If the seller was local and all?

Anyway I can help. Do this:

go to ebay.com

Click ADVANCED SEARCH near the top right of the page.
Near bottom left, click FIND CONTACT INFORMATION
Enter USER ID and Item # and hit enter.

Their phone number will be mailed to you in seconds.

If the number is obviously fake or something, then you are in trouble. How did you pay? Paypal?

Yeah, Paypal via debit card.  Thanks for the tip though.  I didn't do local pickup because they are about 15-20 miles away.  I could if I had to, but I'd rather not.

False alarm.  The tickets were waiting for me when I got home.

HAHA I've done a few times even with online stores, and you know what sometimes it pays to push for updates becuase just before xmass I ordered something and for 2 days it didn't ship so I pushed for updates and the short story was the item was never in stock even when the web site said otherwise.

I've thought of that and no, it would not be/will not be funny.

What would be funny is if the Bengals crush the Steelers so bad that Whines Ward and Little Jen Worthlessberger cry and cuddle in each others' arms.

Should be a good game, and I'm pretty excited.  Sucks that the playoffs aren't on the line or around the corner though.

Half the fun of going to a game isn't even the game, it's going and screaming at the players and pissing off everyone sitting next to you.  Okay, maybe not.  But food, friends, the potential for sitting through bad weather like a loyal fan... always good times.  I've never been to a football game, though.  My dad and I used to mostly do baseball and basketball.

Glad it worked out. Based on the price, it sounds like the tickets are pretty good. Where are you sitting?

Just thought I'd pop in to say that if there is one nfl team I don't like it's totally the Steelers.   Thats my contribution to this.

Oh, wait...no it's not.  I've probably bought stuff on ebay 10-15 times, and only been ripped off once.  When I first got my xbox I bought a ton of old xbox games from ebay, and one of the auctions I won claimed I never paid and never shipped.  Then warned me that if I didn't pay they'd leave negative feedback.  I imagine they were a little upset the auction ended at like $3 or $4 and they wanted to double dip it.  I ended up sending them an email telling them that I paid and had the paypal reciept to prove it.  I never ended up getting the game but emailed both paypal and ebay about it just so it was on record should they do it again to someone for more money.

And I'm fairly suprised a good system of escrow hasn't been set up for online auction purshases yet.
