I was just listening to that today, Pyro. Good album, though I'm now fully convinced that A Diamond for Disease is their best release, followed by A Celebration of Guilt, then followed by United in Regret. I still dig the album, though.
I've also been going through old stuff.
Idol, Dan, you guys HAVE to listen to Loudflower. I mentioned it to Idol when he was talking about how few rock bands have horn sections, and these guys are just freaking awesome. One album... "Happy Now?". One of my all-time favorites. Also, check out Five Iron Frenzy's first album, "Upbeats and Beatdowns". Ska/punk/rock with lots of funny (and horns).
Was also listening to 311's "Transistor", which I hadn't heard in years. Man, that CD had so many freaking songs on it. Like tons. I'm not in love with all of them, but talk about getting your money's worth. And the title track was bloody awesome.
I found my old Grammatrain CD (the only one I own) which has one of my all-time favorite tunes... "Flying". It's the title track of the album. Along with that I found some Poor Old Lu CDs too, which was pretty cool. Their album "Sin" is a favorite, and you have to listen to the track "Cannon Fire Orange".
Yes, some of this is "Christian" music. Suck it up and listen, damn it.
Grammatrain - Check out "Less", "Flying", "Sell Your Soul".
Amazon has nothing from Poor Old Lu's back catalog, but apparently they have a new album... and the stuff sounds pretty good. Gives you an idea. I really love their vocalist, he's got a unique voice you won't hear anywhere else. You can't quite hear it perfectly in the clips, and these songs don't seem at first glance quite as awesome as the old stuff, but... yeah.
I may have posted Driver Eight before, but here they are again. Listen to "Strange". One of my favorite songs ever. The clip sort of sucks, though. But a really good band anyway. I think this was their only release.
And here's Havalina Rail Co. with their self-titled. Try "Ragtime", "Proportion Thing" (fuck I love this song), "If You Leave", and "This Monkey Doesn't Take Nickels and Dimes". This is crazy stuff, with jazz elements, swing, blues, and other sorta' down home stuff. If you don't like it, someone should shoot you in the face. Also, it's up there with the aforementioned 311 album... 19 songs for 5 bucks. Beat that, I dare you.
How could I forget another Havalina favorite, "Diamond in the Fish"! Try it, you'll like it. Last song on the album, and to this day it drives me crazy I love it so much.
I should stop now. Nostalgia has gotten the better of me and I know nobody is going to read this.
