Mp3 to midi?
« on: Monday, February 12, 2007, 12:13:27 AM »
Maybe someone can help me with this, I want to convert some mp3s to midis.  I remember doing it with Winamp but that was a long time ago and I can't seem to remember how, I looked around on Google and the Winamp site but I'm not finding any useful info, or maybe I'm just not looking hard enough.  All of the programs I have found through Google that do it are trial versions and usually won't let you save the file just listen to it.

It's possible, but the MIDI will be terrible and not resemble the mp3 song very much.  It's important to note that MIDI is not really a music file -- it does not have an audio signal -- it's just digital data that tells the speaker what to play.

As a result, there are a few programs that will transfer mp3 to MIDI, but it will not be good or anything.

I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that you want to do this because you're using it to give your phone some ringtones?

Yeah, I've actually had luck with the trial programs I tried, and the midis sounded pretty good(the mp3s I got were very simple ones, almost sounded like midis), but I couldn't save them with the programs just being in trial mode and all.  Also yes, this is for my phone.
