Cricket's fastest bowler.
« on: Friday, February 16, 2007, 01:35:25 AM »
This is short video showing Shoaib Akhtar, the world's fastest bowler. He bowled a bouncer, that is a very fast ball aimed at a batsmen's head. Anyway he hit him and it was brutal. The batsmen who was a prominent player retired soon after because of vision problems. Oh and in case you are wondering, they are wearing white clothing because it is test cricket that lasts five days. It is a traditional form of the game and they wear white clothing. In the other form, which is one day cricket they wear colored clothing.

The cricket world cup is coming soon which will feature teams from around the world in a month. I'd really appreciate it if you guys watch the vids and let me know what you think. I would. :)

The videos are all really short. Please do give the 4 vids a watch and let me know what you think.

This is the bouncer I was talking about. A little bit of bloodshed:

This is of a yorker. A ball aimed a batsmen's feet aimed at either breaking his toes or getting him out.

This is of one day cricket in England, so you will get a better idea of the atmosphere:

Yeesh, the sport is more brutal than I thought. Shots aimed at the head or feet to break toes... I know in baseball they generally aim at the batting range of the player, not at body parts.

Well the ones aimed at the feet normally miss the feet and hit the wickets, getting him out. The ones aimed at the head are so that the batsmen fends it with the bat and it goes to a fielder's hands, thus getting him out.

That looked painful as hell. This game makes no sense to me, though. Someone tried to explain it to me once and I was lost.

Pug was trying to explain what a wicketkeeper was in the other thread and I have no idea what it meant.  I think baseball may be so firmly implanted in my head I just can't grasp what cricket is supposed to be all about.
