The Office
« on: Friday, February 23, 2007, 11:26:59 AM »
So I just finished the rather short first season of The Office. I thought it was quite good and Steve Carrel is really perfect in that role. What are the opinions of everyone here on the show? Anyone seen the UK version?

I've seen both versions and I think the American one is better. The first season is pretty weak because it tries too hard to be like its British cousin but the second season had me laughing hysterically.

Its weird too since I prefer British humor
Suck it, Pugnate.

Me and Meg watch it every Thursday. We absolutely love it. Dwight is my hero.

Love the British version too. Ricky Garvis rocks.

I couldn't bring myself to watch it just because it made no sense to me that it actually existed.  I mean, I own the original Office, what the hell do I need another one for?  I should really watch it again, too.  It made me laugh and feel slightly better about my horrible job.

I've seen all of both.  It's hard to say which I like(d) more.  The american version is easier to watch, but the fact that Ricky Garvis actually made you feel uncomfortable says a lot about the genious of the original.

Just treat the two as separate shows and it will be fine. They share the name and thats it. (Other than the first episode of the American version which is a carbon copy of the british pilot.) Different stories, different jokes and different culture. Comparing the two side by side is dumb because they are totally different.
Suck it, Pugnate.

I dunno'... what I did see reminded me way too much of the original.  I mean, it was different, but not *very* different.  And one of the characters seemed completely identical to one of the originals.  I really haven't watched much, there just hasn't been anything to draw me in.  Maybe I'll give it another shot someday.

The second season of the US version is funnier than the UK version, I'd say, and I'm English. As for the character who is remarkably similar to the original, it's true. They even got an actor who could be the original's twin. It's creepy to me.

Also, hi. I come from FAWM bearing gifts of... Well, no gifts, really.

Well, yea, at first it might have seemed a terrible idea to remake the Office following that Couplings debacle, but the Office really has forged its own identity.  You should definitely try to catch the Diversity Day episode.  It was so deliciously awesome.  And don't forget that Ricky Gervais is an executive producer for the American version of the Office, too, so he wouldn't let them eff it up completely.

Another cool thing is that they're planning to write in characters from the British office in some way, or at the least, use the actors.  And maybe even Ricky Gervais himself making an appearance.  That'd be delicious.

haha that's exactly what I was thinking. I loved the BBC Coupling, but the American one was rubbish. I was wondering if this was going to be the same case, but I enjoyed the first season.

I was really confused for a second there and then I realized Que must have told you about this place.  Welcome, and don't worry we don't all kick puppies.  That's just him.

It's more that I creepily located it via his MySpace and was intrigued, but whichever.

I'm not a stalker.

Honest.

Heh, I'm glad you did.  No particularly good way to communicate privately over at the FAWM site.  And we can always use a new face or two around here.  Do feel free to stick around.  Most of the people here are much nicer than I am.   :-[

Actually that isn't very unusual around here. :P

I am in the midst of the second season and feel very sorry for Michael.

I'd just like to say that the reaction to the discovery of the bat was one of the funniest things I've ever seen.

Thread derailment?  What's that?

Speaking of rails... who likes trains?  Boy, trains are sure great.  Subway trains, too.  And rail shooters.  I'm gonna' go play some Panzer Dragoon.

I've been trying to nail that one down for years now.  I've come to the conclusion that it's never going to happen.
