Might be your problem.  Certain enemies that are easy to use a Hades Reverse on are great for blocking, but a lot of them aren't.  Minotaurs I never block.  My primary strategy for the average enemy in general is to keep my distance, get some quick hits in, then roll out to evade any counterattack.  Rinse and repeat.  If you have time for a heavy combo, great; if it seems like you can extend your combo beyond a few hits, then do so; and if it seems you've got a nice moment to do a Hades Reverse, then take it; but be ready to roll out whenever you see something coming that's hard to block or when multiple enemies are bringing the offensive at the same time (which will generally fuck up your Hades Reverse, making an attempt at blocking useless).  Position is everything, and I think this becomes even more apparent in the second game.  Blocking definitely has its uses (again, even more so in the second game), but rolling is essential.  Note also that rolling will extend your combo timer just a tiny bit, which is really the only good way to get a good combo going up into the hundreds.  I don't think it quite gives you the full one-second reset of the timer that an actual hit does, but a roll will keep your combo going just that much longer, helping you evade attacks that would otherwise break your chain if you blocked or got hit, or if you *ran* to evade and hence let the timer expire.

I just got the game earlier today and I just made it out of the first Titan's cave and flew to the island where I'm guessing is the main part of the game.  I'm loving the game so far and I'm really impressed with the larger scale of the game.  I can't elaborate too much more till I get some more play time in, but its a blast so far.

Yay for double posts!

Anyways, I beat it a couple of hours ago on God(Hard)Mode and the game is really fucking awesome and now I'm highly looking forward to the third one.  I'm very happy they just left a lot of stuff alone but just added onto it, they didn't try to make some monumental change to the style of the game and it was great.  The best improvement by far was the higher number of boss battles, all of which were really damn fun.  I've started another game on Titan(Very Hard) mode and I just got to Typhon's cave.  Everyone needs to play this game if they have played the first one and anyone who hasn't played the first one needs to.

Please tell me you had lots of trouble with that crazy Gauntlet toward the end of the game where you have to fight the 8 billion enemies with all the energy gate things turning on and off.  Man, I must have tried that shit for an hour and a half or two hours before I got it.  I figured out that I was essentially going at it the wrong way, but supposedly the best way to do it was to fully power up one of the side weapons that I hadn't bothered with at all.  Oops!

Yeah that part slowed me down a bit, I think I died a couple of times, not too sure on the exact number. I never did use any of the other weapons that much, the hammer was pretty badass, but the spear was kinda meh.  By then my blades were already maxed out along with the lightning attack and the earth attack. I used the lightning attack a lot in conjunction with the combos that knock them away from you. That lightning attack is a fucking lifesaver, helped me out a ton on the final battle.

Been a while, but I started and finished the game over the past week. My first thoughts from the reviews were basically right on track. The series has became Soul Reaver. Like, in nearly every way save for a lack of vampires (and soul drinking). Even down to the way the freaking ending was handled.

I only played on normal mode, so I didn't have much trouble with any of the combat. What did get me was several puzzle areas where enemies just kept coming at you while you try to pull levers and such or areas where I didn't quite see a turnoff or a climbable surface. I kept it light because I more or less just wanted to finally play through the game.

But yeah, very awesome stuff. There's really not much more to add beyond that. I'm really looking forward to Chains of Olympus now because I'm assuming it'll fill a few gaps.

Yeah, I can't wait for that.  I've seen some videos and it looks damned good.  I'm a bit concerned that someone else is directing it, but it seems Corey Barlog is still involved, at least, as he and the other guy showed it off at one of GSpot's shows not too long ago.  It looks to be shaping up really nicely in comparison to its console cousins.
