Men drained by bed sharing

Scientists in Austria say sharing a bed with someone temporarily reduces men's brain power.

When men spend the night with someone their sleep is disturbed, whether they make love or not, and this impairs their mental ability the next day.

According to the New Scientist study, women who share a bed fare better because they sleep more deeply.

Professor Gerhard Kloesch and colleagues at the University of Vienna studied eight unmarried, childless couples in their 20s.

Each couple was asked to spend 10 nights sleeping together and 10 apart while the scientists assessed their rest patterns with questionnaires and wrist activity monitors.

The next day the couples were asked to perform simple cognitive tests and had their stress hormone levels checked.

Although the men reported they had slept better with a partner, they fared worse in the tests, with their results suggesting they actually had more disturbed sleep.

But women apparently managed to sleep more deeply when they did eventually drop off, since they claimed to be more refreshed than their sleep time suggested.

Dr Neil Stanley, a sleep expert at the University of Surrey, said: "Historically, we have never been meant to sleep in the same bed as each other. It is a bizarre thing to do.

"Sharing the bed space with someone who is making noises and who you have to fight with for the duvet is not sensible."

I think every man should print this as scientific evidence. No more will they have to be forced to spend the night.

I actually find myself being the opposite. If Meg isn't in bed with me, I can't sleep at all. But when she's there, I sleep like a baby.

Yeah, I cry bullshit.  Julia has a lot of trouble sleeping when I'm there just because her condition makes her fidgety and stuff, so another person only compounds it.  She sleeps much better when I'm elsewhere, though I think she still prefers to have me there just because she feels more emotionally comfortable that way.  Me, I could sleep in a room full of flaming bodies and probably pass out without issue.  I sleep very little, so when my lights go out, they go *out*.

Let me debunk the study:

Men who are sleeping with women after having sex: Their brains are thinking nothing because they just got laid. What else is there to think of other than sleep?

Men who are sleeping with women after not having sex: Brain activity consists of: "ARGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH" Nothing else is happening in there.

that's weird.

I sleep better when I'm alone.  When friends come over and share a bed.. or my friend leaves her kids with me.. I can't sleep properly.  I'm a really light sleeper when alone, moreso when with others - even if we're sharing a room and the person has her own bed. I still wake when she moves too much.

I don't know what it'll be like when I get married.. maybe I should have my own room!! haha
