I probably won't see it until it comes to DVD or something.

I'm not too interested in it, even though it is Rodriguez and Tarantino.

Been following for a while and can't wait to see it.

Yeah, I want to see it, as well.

TWO (approximately) 90 minutes from two awesome directors sounds interesting to me.

I loved the preview for Planet Terror, which just flat-out looked like a bad-ass zombie flick. I saw a short clip of that one, which was shown on USA Network after WWE Raw -- the scene was freakin' awesome!!

Death Proof looked pretty cool, but it didn't hit me on the trailer straight up like Planet Terror did. Though, interesting enough, many critics are saying Death Proof is the better of the two movies; saying that it has some of Quentin's best dialogue since Pulp Fiction and that the last action scene is amazing.

I really wonder if any studio will actually even think about wanting to really make these "faux trailers" made just for the "Grindhouse", which are shown in the "intermission" between Planet Terror and Death Proof.

I dunno'... I sort of care and sort of don't.  I have a feeling it'll be awesome good fun, but at the same time I'm not rabid for it or anything.  We shall see.

Oh damn, I missed this thread.  I saw this opening night at The Alamo Drafthouse in Austin(one of the first theaters to show it in the nation at 11:00pm on April 5th woo!), where Deathproof was shot.  One of the girls in the movie is wearing an Alamo Drafthouse shirt and they also drive right by the Alamo Drafthouse on 4th and Colorado.  After looking into it Tarentino and Rodriguez were both really big on letting Austin, specifically the Drafthouse see it first since they both love the place, it made the movie a little more cooler.  It was really cool when they were driving around Austin in the movie and going to different places, like Antone's, Guero's, and The Texas Chili Parlor.  I recognized everywhere they were at in the movie.  I also recognized where they shot bits and pieces of Planet Terror at the old airport.

Both of the movies were completely fucking awesome, I haven't had that good of a time at a movie in a long ass time, the fake trailers in between the two movies were fucking hilarious.  I enjoyed Planet Terror a little bit more but Death Proof was still really damn good.  Everyone should go see this in theaters and not wait for it to come to DVD, with the fake trailers and other little tidbits I won't go into, it makes for an awesome experience that you won't get at home watching it on DVD.

The best film experience of the year. I haven't had that much fun at a movie in years. Planet Terror is ridiculous, gooey fun. Death Proof is fucking genius character work and stunts. I LOVED IT. The trailers had me laughing in fits.

Ender you gotta read this hilarious Naveen Andrews interview:

http://movies.ign.com/articles/778/778604p1.html

edit:

I loved how honest he was in that interview. It is so refreshing. Normally other actors just describe the people they work with as gods etc etc. It is always extremely annoying. I especially like the following:

Quote
Q: Going back and forth from Lost to this, is this like the fun part or a different kind of creative muscle you're exercising?

Andrews: They're both completely different mediums. I think you can achieve things in television that you can't achieve on film, and I think we managed to do a lot of that in the first season of Lost. So I'm very grateful for that and that season will always be there and I'm very proud of it and I'm putting it up there with what I consider work that I'm most proud of.

That is pretty awesome how he chooses to specifically mention only the first season. Like I said, refreshing.

Anyway guys read the interview. It is quite funny and his honesty makes it awesome. I love the answer to the final question.

I am so excited to see this.  I love Tarantino, not to mention that every person I have talked to that has seen it went crazy for it.  Going this Friday.
Suck it, Pugnate.

Haha, thanks Pug. Naveen obviously doesn't understand kitsch cinema... leave it to a brit to take things too seriously, and then somehow be funny at the same time.

I'm going to have to read more on this.  I hate these shows that take years to tell you a story that would fit in a couple of movies.

Word on the street is that since this movie bombed and can't play on as many screens because of its length, its going to be re-released as two separate movies, so if you plan on seeing this, go now.

Yea I heard.  I also heard that a lot of the moviegoers were not aware it was a double feature, and left after this first film.  It surprises me how ignorant some people can be.

I'm probably going to wait for this to come to DVD before seeing it though since I don't have much time over the next couple of weeks with final exams and stuff.

Im going to see it this weekend. Though now that I read the news I can already see the DVD release to be 2 separate dvds or a combo pack giving it an excuse to pay 30 bucks for it.

I hear that over here it's never going to be released as one movie, which makes me a) sad, because the concept is awesome, and b) angry, because I'll have to pay twice, and the cinema ain't cheap.

If they re-release it as two movies, don't buy the DVD. They still haven't put Kill Bill 1/2 in a single buy, that movie has been out for almost 3 years now.

That was Miramax's fault and they were also the people who split the movie into two movies instead of one like Tarentino wanted it.  Tarentino nor Rodriguez works with Miramax anymore and Rodriguez practically owns the film studio he uses so I don't see both of the movies being seperated on DVD since that defeats the whole point of the Grindhouse experience.  It is the theaters' fault that Grindhouse is being split now.  They aren't splitting the movie at a lot of places in the US, mainly in other countries.

Also on your earlier comment you said this movie bombed?  It's got like an 86% rating on Rotten Tomatoes and made $11 million on opening weekend, that's not good, but it's not horrible either, especially for the type of movie it is.  Opening on Easter weekend wasn't the greatest idea though.

Theres talks about splitting the movie in US theaters right now. It could also just be the studio's way of trying to get people to get off their asses and go see the movie.

Financially the movie flopped, Easter weekend could have something to do with it, but I don't know. Personally, if wanted to see this movie, Easter wouldn't stop me. Opening at #4 is not a hit, its pretty bad.

What?
Is Miramax afraid nobody wants to sit through a 3-hour haul?
I dunno, but it sounds like I might have to go to the theatre to see these TWO together.

I was shocked, too.

I figured that being a double-feature AND having two great action-movie directors (Tarantino and Rodriquez together), this movie would easily get movie-goes off their ass to go see it. As soon as I saw the trailer for this, I was like -- "Damn, I want to see this!"

I thought it would make a killing this past weekend, myself. Damn, was I wrong....

WTF happened??!!?!?

Well, that was the best 10 bucks I ever spent.  Or twenty I guess, given that I had to pay for Julia too.  If any of you are planning on seeing this, DO IT NOW!  You definitely want your first time to be in a theater full of people and you definitely want it to be with both movies back to back.

Yeah, that was just awesome.  So horrible and funny and awful and great.  I loved every minute.

That was fucking amazing.  No doubt.  I loved both movies SO much.  Especially Tarantino's movie.  They were TOTALLY different.

And there is no intermission, but there is some time between the movies where "prevues" are shown.  A couple of my smoker friends went out for a cigarette then.  They didn't miss too much.

Suck it, Pugnate.

I thought the previews were hilarious.  But still, yeah, if you needed to get the hell out, you could do it then.  There's also some seriously huge sections of entertaining but basically meaningless dialogue in the second film if you needed a stretch.  You could get out while the first group of chicks is in the bar without missing *too* much if you go at the beginning.  The previews are mostly pretty funny.  The Nicolas Cage cameo had me in the aisles.

I saw it this week.  I definitely enjoyed the movie, but didn't care for Death Proof all that much.  I found myself bored by too much pointless dialogue.  Planet Terror was awesome though and as a big fan of B movies I enjoyed them both.

Death Proof was a bit odd, but I couldn't help but like it.  Especially the ending.  That whole chase sequence was so freaking long, it was awesome.

Planet Terror was amazing. One of the best movies I've ever seen. Nothing bad to say about that. Death Proof was ok. I found the first situation pretty boring. The second one was ok until the ending sequence, which just made it awesome. The dialogue didn't reel me in like regular Tarantino fare.

and the trailers were awesome

Grindhouse ruled. I saw it today.

I really liked Planet Terror. Rockin' zombie movie....
...but damn, it was no Death Proof. I loved Death Proof -- everything about it. And the ending was freakin' great.

You can't go wrong w/ The Grindhouse.

"Machete" trailer looked pretty bad-ass -- which actually is going to be a straight-to-DVD release; heh.
