In other words,
this thing.
It was good fun. My friend (and by friend I mean a guy I throw way too much money at for art)
DP was going, and I thought, "Hey, it'd be cool to meet him finally". If reference is needed,
he did this commission for me a while back. Most of you saw it. Anyway, it didn't look like it was going to happen, but then I mentioned it to Julia and she really wanted to go. So we went. Saw tons of stuff, talked to tons of people, and generally got to poke around and begin what is liable to be a fairly long quest in getting to know the comics industry better so I can someday toss some of my writing around and get some comic artists to collaborate with me on projects.
In the end, the art I was most impressed with was a girl we spent a fair amount of time talking to,
Camilla d'Errico. Her stuff looks a hell of a lot less impressive on her site as compared to the prints she had up and the sketchbooks for her upcoming comic. Anyway, I wanted a souvenir of the show and decided that I couldn't decide on any of the comics, and I wanted another good piece of comic art for the game room, so I picked up
the first of these 3 prints. I always feel really good when I can support people that I actually think are doing something worthwhile with their lives. And good art is always worthwhile.
So yeah, had fun, and it was pretty great to finally meet DP. He's a trip. I think he's in his mid 30s or something, and he's got a kind of hardcore punk exterior (he looks like a skinhead at first glance), but he's extremely nice and really shy and quiet. We only really got to say hi for like 5 minutes or something, mostly because we weren't staying all day and I didn't want to drag him down when he had stuff to go look at, but it was nice to finally say hi. I almost managed to see him at Comic-Con a couple years ago too, but missed the chance, so I'm glad we got to this year.
