Not really. IWD is basically Baldur's Gate minus the great NPC characters, the tense combat and gripping storyline. Basically you will like IWD if you really want to play a hack and slash in the D&D setting. I mean you start the game by creating a party of four, and then well... it just gets boring.
I wish in RPG's, you'd create more than just your MAIN character at the start screen.
It'd be cool if at start screen, say I could create like TWO characters at the start, yet somehow not let the 2nd main character be like a cardboard cut-out.
A lot of these RPG's where you "create a party" -- like say IWD and TOEE, that's about it (I ain't played either, but I know this from what I read in reviews). You never get even some sort of banter b/t NPC's or nothing. It'd be cool that at "create a party" start-up, you could like select a handful of "background traits" and stuff, and based on that, the 2nd lead character would have some sort of background and responses to other NPC's and your lead NPC. That'd be interesting, if generated and done correctly. And probably would take a lot of time for the designers to create some sort of algorithm and set lines for NPC's to say, too -- instead of the game just having already created characters built right into the game.
