I am glad Chris found a publisher. He seems like such a nice guy and is really passionate about his games. I've spoken to him on e-mail after I wrote the Dungeon Siege review.
He basically spent all his life savings on the development of Dungeon Siege and was in the red when it was released. Thankfully it was a hit, but I am sure the reason behind DS2 being such a disaster was that Taylor was still trying to milk the DS engine.
I liked the original DS in many regards, yet I liked DS2 in many regards. Though, many of the things I liked about the original DS, they broke in DS2 -- such as the save system and the removal of the formation system.
Though, I did prefer DS2: Broken World over DS2: Original -- boy a good amount, actually. Especially since they added new hot-keys for formations (yay!), a few quests that have multi-solutions, the story was much better and darker, there were new classes, new loot galore, and the new NPC characters rocked.
I never finished DS1.
Never began Arranna expansion, either.
Reminds me a bit of the Freedom Force sequel. The fact that they were doing a sequel had me excited because I was looking forward to them doing 80s or 90s of the comic books. Unfortunately they chose to go even further back. Reason was they wanted to recycle the engine, and juice it for all it was worth. It happened with the second Splinter Cell game as well.
FF rocked -- awesome game.
Still yet to play FF Vs. 3rd Reich.
I should get it, since it's like $10, these days and age -- if you can find it.
