May 18, 2007 - Half-Life 2: The Black Box is no more. The package, which was to offer Half-Life 2: Episode 2, Portal, and Team Fortress 2, has been officially cancelled by Valve. The Orange Box will be the only collection offered when Episode 2 releases this fall. Priced $10 higher than the Black Box, the Orange Box adds the original Half-Life 2 and HL2: Episode 1.

"The Black Box has been cancelled," said Doug Lombardi, Valve's director of marketing. "We're going to have one package, The Orange Box, available on the PC (US$49.99) as well as the 360 and PS3 (US$ 59.99). In addition to the three new products -- Portal, Team Fortress 2, and Half-Life: Episode Two -- The Orange Box will also contain the full version of Half-Life 2 and Half-Life 2: Episode One. Those who purchase the PC version of The Orange Box will get three separate Steam product codes: One for the three new games, one for HL2, and one for Episode One. This way a PC Orange Box owner can give away their Half-Life 2 or Episode One unused Steam product codes if they don't need a copy of those games. We are excited to deliver the highest value of new gaming content ever offered in one box."

Hooray! Now everyone can buy another copy of HL2 and EP1 even if they don't need it! Wait...no, thats bullshit.

How typical. I planned on getting the Orange box anyway, but for 50$? I guess it could be worth it. I guess this is Valves way of saying they fucked up on episodic gameplay. They finally make a nice juicy package and kind of try to erase the fact that episode one was ever released.

That's why they eliminated the Black Box.

Now, they're really trying to FORCE STEAM purchases on us users who already own HL2 and HL2 Ep One, so that we buy what we're missin' for cheaper directly over STEAM.

I'll probably get The Orange Box when it's at a reasonable price for me -- since I already own HL2 and HL2 Ep One.

Or, I play some of game A, buy game B, get side-track from game A, play game B, then buy game C, and you can just continue to follow the "buy, get another game, play that game, buy something else" pattern....

Que, w/ NWN2, that's like the final battle in the game.

Though, it's quite hard...he throws ridiculous amounts of enemies at you -- and most of them, they're tough high-level enemies.

No but really everyone having a third testicle isn’t a laughing matter. Many young men are to afraid to ask their parents, doctor or their buddies if its really normal or not and as a result many young men die every year when their third (explosive) testicle goes off for failing a mission.
Now D has been struck down with this condition… and I just don’t think we’ll ever see him again.
