I think it's funny that it says it is "playable only using voice commands" and then later says "although there will also be the option to use a joypad."

Doesn't that really mean you can play it with voice commands or a joypad? I mean it obviously isn't playable only with voice commands.

I think what they meant to say is this: "game can be played w/ just voice commands. No controller required -- though, if you'd like to use a gamepad, be our guest.

Hell, I bet the best players will use both the "voice commands" and controller.

"alpha squad get to point echo"? i dunno.

it's an interesting concept, but i can't really imagine it being a valid replacement for more traditional control methods.

with an extension of what xessive said above, how do you scroll around the map, how do you group units, how do you set rally locations? with the quick succession of commands you have to input using both keyboard and mouse in rts games, i think it would get pretty confusing, pretty quickly. the only way i can see this working, is if the gmae has a relatively limited level of control, or if a lot of stuff is handled autonomously.

Thats probably what will end up happening. EndWar is being developed for the consoles. I don't believe a PC version has been announced at all. It'll be interesting to see how they design this one.

You guys remember that PS2 game that was voice only? It was called "Lifeline" or something and it was bullshit. It was about this chick trapped on a space station full of aliens.

That stupid bitch never did anything I told her to. I would be all "SHOOT THE ALIEN" and she would drink a health potion even though I was at full health. God, I hated that game.

Yeah, I think everyone did. Voice recognition has never worked right, and I think that one is one of the more recent attempts to prove it.

It's good that this is at least progressing voice recognition technology, though. Even if this games' voice recognition totally sucks, it still helps things along. I'd like to see Starcraft 2 incorporate it- maybe not to the degree of that W3 vid, but just enough to help control things in the heat of battle.

I can see it helping RTS games if its done right and works well. Like you assign selections of units to groups...if they get into trouble you can just say "Alpha halt" or "Alpha retreat" to have them automatically do what you say instead of selecting and having to issue an order manually, interrupting what you might already be working on.

Personally, though...I don't like talking to my games. Like the voice stuff in Nintendogs? Didn't like that. I still haven't played Odama despite owning it just because you use the mic and stuff.

The reason I thought it was cool was because it would make you feel like a general as you spat off commands. However as everyone has said it could be tedious to keep shouting stuff into the mic.

I used to do that.. Whenever I played MGS, I got into my sneaking suit.. Ok, it was a really comfortable suit.

I could see GameSpot doing this in their review...

...Since they often will get into the mood for reviews -- like, for example, when Kas dressed up as a Ninja for Ninja Gaiden on the X-Box.
