Well, that makes sense. It's just refreshing to see, I guess. Every time I purchase a Blizzard game I feel incredibly sound in my investment. All too often you see dev's give up on a game after a year or so.

Do they still have the secret cow level? Back in the day I remember getting to hell at level 5 and just hitting up the secret cow level until I got to 99. It was pretty cheap.

Damn writs leg.

You've never experienced the glory of the cow level?  For shame!

The cow level is still there.  If you beat diablo in a particular difficulty you can take wirts leg and a tome of town portal and open a portal to what basically amounts to a pasture full of axe wielding cows.  If you don't kill the Cow King, you can continue to play over and over.  But once the cow king dies, that's it.  Your character will no longer be able to make the portal on that difficulty level.

Beating Diablo in hell meant a lot to me.  This has been really my second true attempt at a high level character.  When I first played I had a necro that I really didn't pay enough attention to as far as stats and skills go. So I get to level 70 and find that my necro can't hang in hell AT ALL.  Like act 1 mobs decimate him.  So yeah, taking this wind druid into hell At level 72, being able to clear out the Chaos Sanctuary, and killing Diablo with nary an issue means that maybe I'm doing something right with this toon.

It's hard to dislike a company that's lending support to their games nearly 10 years after release.

No reason to NOT own Diablo 2 + LOD now, if you're missing this...

@Que

Agreed 100%.
Blizzard is tough to top, when it comes to supporting old-games.
Hell, even if they just release one patch when a new Windows OS drops, they'd STILL be topping most companies w/ free support on old games.

Most companies seem to like to re-release old-games w/ some new features...and then charge for them.

It's kinda funny how at the same time that Blizzard is patching Diablo II even though Diablo III is still alive and going, they're sending C&D letters to 3rd party vanilla WoW servers and refusing to open any of their own. They're supporting the old Diablo, but not the old WoW. (Also I'd like a patched up digital release of Diablo 1 as well, please.)

That whole thing with nostalrius is such a huge gray area. I understand the nostalgia of old WoW and people being able to play it again, but I find it really really weird people bitching at Blizzard about it. You honestly can't expect a group of people to start up an old version of WoW, make it free, and have Blizzard just be okay with it? I haven't looked that much into it to be honest so there maybe more to it than that, but I haven't seen Blizzard just outright deny that they will never do it themselves. Maybe not now, but I'm sure they at least realize the interest there is for vanilla WoW.

I started playing on Nostalrius just recently. I was slowly progressing and made it to level 20 or so, but didn't want to go on once I heard it was shutting down. I had a few friends playing with me as well. I completely agree that it's within Blizzard's legal right to shut them down, but I'm still not happy about it. I would gladly sub to WoW to play on a vanilla server, but they won't offer it. I'm really not interested in playing the current version anymore. It's just too different from the game I was hooked on back then, and playing it again recently just cemented in my brain even more.

After the damn nostalgia factor for D1 being thrown in D3, I actually experimented yesterday w/ Diablo 1 quite a bit and actually got it going on W7.

Do you still have your Diablo 1 retail disc copy? Do you have a DVD or CD drive, whether internal or external that you can connect via USB?
It's really easy and fast to install - almost instant! LOL. :)

Patching isn't too hard, either, as the most recent patch is on B-Net.

Anyways, I'll create a thread on how to make Diablo 1 work, patch it up, and whatnot for modern systems.

GameRant - Brevik and The Schaefers say a Diablo 2 Remaster is unlikely:
https://gamerant.com/diablo-2-remaster-when/

Notes:
- There was a major data corruption on their back-up drives at Blizzard North (BN).
- This happened near the end of D2's development!
- All of their original assets & code were lost, from the corruption incident.
- They were supposed to have a back-up, but neglected in doing so.
- They had to cobbled the game up & back together, from different computers at BN.
-  Numerous computers at BN each had chunks of the game on it, needed to be put back together.
- They believe a lot of code & assets would need to be re-created from scratch, to do D2 Remaster.
