Last time I played there were two kinds of online.  The online where your character is stored on Battle.net servers, and the online where your character is stored on your hard drive.  The latter kind is easily hacked.  I had a sorceress with all skills maxed out at 99 or something, plus a full cache of perfect skulls in my inventory.  I think I had also created an item that couldn't exist in the game:  a socketed rare item, which was loaded with perfect  gems, of course.

I was so powerful that any damage I did was beyond what the game expected and it would crash any time I hit anything.  I had to lower my level way down so that it didn't happen.

I'm a Paladin.

And I was thinking it was the least desirable class.

Pyro is playing a pally with us. I think hes died the most...heh. But his lightning resist aura saved our asses several times.

I'm playing a druid, but going for the werewolf with a pack of dire wolves and just meleeing the shit out of everything. I have almost zero casting spells. Its pretty fun.

Paladins are team players.  They have auras that help out the whole group, which in the right circumstances can either really save your ass or totally boost your damage output.  They can be a little tricky to play, though, because of that.  They're still fun.  I played one for a while.

I'm doing the Amazon/bow thing.  Lots of fun.  I love shooting stuff.

Yea Paladins are very useful in squads etc, but they aren't fun when you are going solo.

Why haven't we played since we got to hell? Oh yeah, that's right. You all suck and I just push for more playtime.

I love the Assassin myself. She seems like she requires the most actual "playing" of all the classes from what I can tell, but she can dish out the damage like mad.

And to argue against the solo Paladin, I made one based around the lightning aura once and he freaking kicked ass, at least in normal mode. I had him doing around 3-600 damage a hit, or something like that, so he would level most anything within a hit or two. Plus, area effect damage would sometimes clear swarms. I'd assume he'd get knocked around in Nightmare or Hell with all the elemental resistances, but if anything wasn't strong against lightning they'd still take a pounding.

I am totally loving the Thorn skill, myself. That skill's nasty -- especially when you go up against monsters that are quite above you, they wind up taking the damage they're dishing out to you. Freakin' bad-ass.

And, I really like the Smite skill, since I never see a game actually use a Shield as a weapon. Plus, it's awesome for a brush-back, to get the enemy out your way when you're surrounded.

So far, I really like The Paladin class.

I'm enjoying being a Paladin in solo, actually, so :P

Oh, I got a henchman w/ me, too. Annon or whatever her name is. :) Yay!

Thorns is quite useful, although it doesn't protect against ranged, so you have to watch out.

I just made a hardcore druid, I'm going bear form for the extra defense since I'm playing hardcore. The only thing about hardcore that I dislike is the pesky pk'ers. I had a 60 hardcore druid get pked when I was last playing (a year or so ago) because I went afk. Quite annoying.

I used to play with a pretty exclusive group on bnet, so I don't really know about the majority of folks on there even though I was around it for years.  Just played with the regulars from our group, and they were all cool.  Totally psychotic in real life, but fun as hell to hang out with.  Mostly middle aged people, some of them even got together up at someone's cabin and stuff... they were crazy but a pretty neat group of people.

Thanks, bro. :)

Unless you're crazy you'll never hit 99.  Most people stop leveling once they hit the 80s since it would just consist of doing Baal runs and stuff like that.

It's about getting the gear to make your character overpowered and stuff.

I haven't played Diablo II in ages though.  World of Warcraft ftw.

I installed this last night.  I now have a level 13 Necromancer named MrCreepy on US East.  Brought back memories.  My first Diablo 2 character was a Necro named Darkenrahl.  I remember being overjoyed that I could finally play in 800x600 when the expansion hit.

If any of you have a toon around my level and would like to join up sometime, let me know.  Otherwise I guess i'll have to go solo since anyone I ever knew that played has since quit.

I totally would but I've sort of got too much else going at the moment.  Pyro, Sy, idol, and myself were all playing a game that we sort of stopped at the expansion area, but maybe if you get your dude up to whatever we're at (I don't even remember) you could join up or something.

Diablo II has Patch 1.12 out now.
Removes CD Check, too.

Here's notes, on how to get No-CD Check to work, if you got problems w/ it:

Quote
Diablo II Patch 1.12 Released -- No-CD Patch

The Diablo II patch 1.12 was released today at 1:30pm EST (-5GMT). You can download it by login into the Battle.net realms. This patch marks the new ladder reset and introduces a no-cd patch. Cheers!

Diablo II Version History

- Patch 1.12
----------------------------------------------------

Downloadable Installer Support

- If all required Diablo 2 '.MPQ' files are installed on the hard drive, the game will no longer require the CD to play.

For users that originally performed a 'Full Installation' and wish to run without the CD, all '.MPQ' files should be copied from the Diablo 2 CDs to the Diablo 2 directory. Most users will only need to copy D2Music.mpq from the Diablo 2 Play CD and/or D2xMusic.mpq from the Lord of Destruction CD. Mac users will need to copy these music files and rename them to 'Diablo II Music' and 'Diablo II Expansion Music' respectively.

Anyone who did not perform a 'Full Installation' will need to re-install from CD again to ultimately play without the CD. In this case, a 'Full Installation' is required, followed by file
copy step noted above.

Bug Fixes

- Fixed an incompatibility between Rosetta and OpenGL mode on Intel Mac.

Share your comments with other Diablo fans.

UPDATE: Some fans are having problems with making the no-cd feature work. DatH said the following:

Please reinstall the game using the Full Installation method (with the cinematics) to make sure that all 3rd party files are gone from the Diablo II folder. Once it's done, install the Expansion pack. Once the Expansion pack is installed, go to the Lord of Destruction CD and copy these two files to your Diablo II folder:

d2xvideo.MPQ
d2xmusic.MPQ

Once that's done, run the game and it'll get the patch. You won't need the CD after that.

Personally, I highlighted all the files ending as .MPQ (within the Lord of Destruction CD) and dropped them into the Diablo 2 folder. I clicked NO when it asked me to replace an existing file -- only copying those that didn't exist. Removed my CD from the CD-Drive, and launched Diablo II. It worked fine without the CD.

Blizzard's no CD fixes are so weird.  I remember for Starcraft and Brood War you also had to copy some files from disc, and they both were something like 500MB.  I guess it's videos and audio.

I launched my game, because I didn't think I needed a no-CD patch.  Sure enough, I already have one.  It's been years.  I couldn't remember a thing.  I have this Level-69 mage-type character that seems untouchable at the normal difficulty in the Flayer jungle.  The inventory is filled with all these buffing charms, and the armor has lists of magic properties.  Health and mana regenerate very quickly.  She was set to use fire spells.  The hydra spell by itself seems to clear the road ahead nicely.

I think I'll leave well enough alone.  I don't remember ever having technical problems with the game.  My version is 1.09d.

I started another character.  Found out some friends from my hometown play so I've been running with them.  On Saturday I had a level 10 druid.  As of last night he was level 52.  Power leveling ftw!

I decided to make him a wind druid, and so far wind druids rock.

Fiscally, it doesn't make a lot of sense to me. I love the fact that they do it, but I don't understand why they would devote employees to patching ancient games. Other than the fact that they rock.

I would assume the games still sell fairly well.  I mean the Diablo Battle Chest still sells for 40 bones.
